Damn British Airways

They’ve just announced that plans to keep one Concorde in the air for air displays etc have been axed because it would be too expensive

Shame on them!

Blame Airbus - they precipitated the problem by saying they would stop producing spare parts for it.

Mike Dahlstrom

Leave it to the Brits…

[#oops] !!! didi i say that outloud???

J/k i love MG’s…

they should give Duxford a new concord so they can use its engines on there Vulcan[4:-)]
BA should have sold the Concord fleet to Virgin airlines

Why are we SOOO sad that the Concorde is gone…

It’s not like any of us will ride it anyway. Or am I wrong?[;)]

Bummer - what a display ot would have been for an airshow…
But I understand that those engines suck fuel like nothing else…would be expensive to run just for display.
Don’t get me wrong - I lament the demise of the Concorde. But I can understand that a company can’t keep producing a product or providing a service that isn’t profitable.
They’ll end up like Enron and thousands upon thousands of people would be out of a job.
Hats off and glasses raised to the memory of one of the most amazing aerospace engineering successes ever seen.
Cheers

I understand that the jet fuel would be very expensive for the Concord to perform at Airshows and to go from one place to another too but it’s sad to see them go but in the world today with nuts trying to fly airliners into buildings and the airtravel is almost to a crawl and they haven’t evolved much like their compatition has i can see the $$$$ are more important to save for more practical sorces of air travel

I heard a rumor that Virgin Airways was interested in them.

British Airways, I hereby damn thee!!!

There, how’s that?

Littlemoe - leave it to the Brits------to BUILD AN SST!!!
34 YEARS AGO!!![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

British Airways would not dare sell Concord to Virgin, becaus they would make it work at a profit and bringing the ticket price down, showing BA for he money grabbers that they are, Air France should go to hell and back…

There may have been a chance, but now, there probably never will be. They will be missed.

BA would never sell to Branson since he beat them in the courts

[:(] Sad to see Concorde go, one flew today to Manchester and presumably those remaining will do the the same to their resting places.
personally the news that one wont remain for Airshows is no bad thing, Concorde was built to fly very fast and very high, prancing about at an airshow would be sad in the extreme, just not this a/c’s style as far as i’m concerned.

You’d think the British Government would do something to keep at least one Concorde flying for the promotion of the British aviation industry. Oh yeah, I forgot. What British aviation industry!!!?
I swear all the idiots are running the show at No.10 these days…

You’d think BA would have the savvy to work with Branson and get a subsidy from the govt. would’nt you? Oh yeah, common sense, we don’t have much of that here either…

Sorry, but I feel very strongly on this one. The sooner Britain gets a kick up it’s backside the better!

Right. I’ll shut up now.

I agree TANGO 1, the UK really needs a wake-up call.

You’d think they’d keep at least a couple of them on government service as research aircraft.

Considering how high they can go and their speed, they would make excellent high altitude research bird. Just re-engine them with a more modern engine, remove the seats and strengthen the fuselage structure a bit more and you could do whatever you liked with them.

Can you imagine training astronauts in a “Vomit Comet” that could hit mach 2 and go that much higher than the things currently used for the purpose?

They may not have been real roomy for passengers, but with the seats out there’s plenty of room for all sorts of scientific instuments and gadgetry.

I understand they are all still generally structurally sound, so they should be kept up in the air as long as they can be.

YEA what tango said, you hit it right on the head there my friend. my grandad worked on the TSR2, before it he loved his job ,after it he hated the government. i too have worked in what is left of the british aircraft industry but not any more. Greg

BTW Guy Fawkes had the right idea LoL [:-,]
