Hmmm I am not sure about the c/d version. There was a very few F version( not many) They were the longer barreled type. There were a few differences such as smoke grenade launchers and a Jerry Can/ watercan rack on the rear. The only ones I have seen were plain afrika yellow and the darker yellow brown. I have one pic somewhere I will post when I locate it. I will check on the history but am fairly certain that they were 1st used at El Alamein and a few more by the Herman Goring division in 1943 after the Allied operation torch landings. When I say a few I am thinking less than 20 in Tunis and 8-12 at El Alamein.
According to Jentz & Doyle in Panzer Tracts no. 8, there were 3 StuG Ds sent to N. Africa with special “Tropen” modifications that included cutting openings in the rear deck hatches that were protected by armor caps. The DML kit doesn’t include this modification and I’ve not seen a photo that shows exactly how they were done…my suspiscion is that they would be a lot like those used on the F/8 and G, but no proof of that. The DML kit out of the box wouldn’t be accurate for DAK.
For what it’s worth, 6 F/8s were also sent to Tunisia with the 10. Pz Div but only 4 survived the crossing to see actual combat service but these are the longer gunned versions. StuGs were a rarity in N. Africa, unlike other theaters where they were almost universal.
