Dad's unopened military miniatures need a good home

Hi, all - I sure hope you can help me out. My father, who spent decades painting military miniatures, passed away recently. We disposed of everything that was painted or opened, but there are still a mountain of unopened, unpainted miniatures that we would hate to throw away. Lots of soldiers, ships, and planes. Does anyone here have a good idea of how we can give these away to a good home? We’re in Victorville, CA, and can travel if need be. Thank you in advance!

First, I would check with any local modeling clubs. You should be able to find them with a internet search. They should be willing to take them off your hands and give them a good home.

Were any of them wargaming miniatures? Same goes for them as well. You’d be surprised at how much wargaming figures goes for.

First and foremost, my deepest condolences to you and your family…
I second GAFs comment, I’d definitely look into local IPMS clubs and go from there.
Blue skies forever :beers:

I did a quick search of your location for IPMS clubs…
There are two IPMS clubs near Victorville, California: the IPMS/Inland Empire and the IPMS/Antelope Valley Group. The IPMS/Inland Empire meets at Pegasus Hobbies in Upland, California. The IPMS/Antelope Valley Group meets in Rosamond, California.
Hope that this helps!?

Ink_Bleeder, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m happy that you’re trying to find a “home” for these miniatures instead of just throwing them into a “dumpster” like what happens so many times. I agree with the other suggestions that have been offered, local modeling or gaming clubs. I also thought of organizations for veterans/individuals who are dealing with either mental health or physical injuries as a form of therapy. On several of the modeling podcasts they often mention working with such groups for PTSD or depression. Once again I’m sorry for your loss of your father. This should serve as reminder for the members of this forum to think of how you’d want your family members to deal with your collections/stashes.

My condolences for your loss.

As already stated, I would check with the local IPMS groups, but failing that, nursing homes might be an option.

Sounds like these guys have you covered but wanted to offer my deepest condolences for the loss of your father Faith.

For the unopened military miniature figures you may have, I’d offer a suggestion on contacting the MMSI. Here’s their website.

They may be able to offer advice on what to do with them and may know people or organisations that would be interested.

Condolences on your loss. You’ve definitely received a lot of good advice, I wanted to throw out there that organizations such as Healvets.org and Models for Troops may also be good recipients.

Faith, I’m sorry to hear of your father’s passing. Aside from the clubs mentioned above, I suggest a phone call to Steve or Henry at Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, they buy up collections like his (and most everyone else’s here too). If you like what they have to say, take the drive down and make the deal happen.
