DACT colors (aggressor) for an F-16

I am wanting to build a couple of F-16’s with aggressor markings. I have obtained some Twobob’s decals and the F-16’s I wanted, but one of the colors called for is FS35190. The only possible match I seem to find refers to a Vallejo color. I am and alway have been a MM man and wondered if there was a way to get close to this? It would be difficult to match it up to a sample on a computer monitor as they seem to vary quite a bit. I read that one of the MM Fulcrum colors is close but to my eye, one looks too gray and the other is way too light. (#2132 and #2131) Has anybody done any experimenting with mixes using MM enamels? I don’t own a FS595 color fan so I can’t really match it that way. Close would be close enough for me.

Anyone? [:^)]

I think that color might be USSR Flanker Medium Blue. #2131 in Testors MM enamel. The also have a pale blue and a “regular blue”. I hope this helps.

jimbo,

If you want that exact FS color try this guy. His name is Jameston and he made my Blockbuster Video Blue for my F-16.

Hope this helps.

If anyone is looking for the FS 35190 color, I cannot get it in a FS color match. But I can get RAL 5014 pigeon blue which according to my crossover software is a 98% match.

You will need an airbrush or a “Preval” sprayer to use my paint.

I hope this helps.

jimbot,

If you are still looking for a 35190 paint match, then check out Xtracolor 160, Synthetic Haze Blue (35190.) It looks like a perfect match to the FS Fan Deck chip of 35190. If that’s not available, then try Humrol 89. It’s close enough to argue about for hours. The MM meduim Flanker blue is a bit too pale, but might pass as a faded or “scaled” 35190.

I don’t particularly care for either brand or for oil-based enamels, but their color matching is right on. Too bad that Gunze, Tamiya, and the rest of the acrylic retailers have ignored the Navy adversary paints. Some people claim that MM’s “blue gray” color for very early WWII Navy planes is 35190. It’s close, but not as close as the paints mentioned above.

HTH, good luck

Check the craft paints in Arts & Crafts stores too… While you won’t find the colors with FS Numbers printed on the labels, an FS color-fan booklet is a good investment (cheap too), and the Mk I eyeball go a long way in finding colors that simply don’t exist with “Model Paint” labels on them…

I get a lot of colors that way, and they usually run about half the price of model paints, and give you three times the amount… If you can deal with the goofy “chick-names” on the bottles… “Mushroom”, “Moss”, and “Silver Tabbycat” are pretty close to “Desert Sand”, “NATO Medium Green”, and “USAAF Neutral Grey”, for instance…

Gonna dig this back up again. Two things:

  1. Does anyone know the colors for the Fulcrom Scheme for the Tamyia F-16C agressor? (I don’t mix paint and the instructions call for mixing)

  2. Hans, where did you pick up your color fan? I have been looking around and cant find one.

You can get an FS-595 from the General Services Administration (GSA). I bought one back in the 70’s that came with postage due of $.45 which I never paid to the USPS. Go to USA.gov. Are you doing one of the 18th FS Arctic Aggressors? These are C-30 models that came from Kunsan. Kunsan painted the first 3 planes IIRC, but modelers, take heart, as they weren’t painted that well.

I am doing the Flanker blue scheme from Nellis.

Thanks Phil…that worked a treat!

I would like to know what you come up with. I am starting a Has F-16 with an aries cockpit upgrade. I also have the TwoBobs Top Gun aggressor decals. Don’t know what yours are. I am also using Mr.Color. If you have picks that would be great. Thanks Jason in Colorado.
