?? D-Day Centaur color question ??

I am currently working on the Tamiya 1/35 Centaur and plan on making it as one landed on D-Day. The instructions show it painted in the Khaki color used on British armor but was being phased out at this time. The Concord book D-Day tank battles shows them painted in Khaki Drab which became more prevelant at this time. Any British armor fans/experts have a definitive answer on this?

I’m curious about that too, it looks like a nice kit. I hope that you will post some pictures for us.

Maybe this will help answer your questions:

The Centaurs were old vehicles not expected to give much further service and had to be withdrawn from storeage. They were painted in the old khaki colour as on the box lid and as time was short ,were not repainted. I made my mine using the Accurate Armour conversion kit , and ( Sods Law ) didn’t have this info and got it wrong . I used the new colour.

Thanks guys for the information. Yes I will take some pics and post them as constrction progresses. Steve the sods law event sure sounds typical of reference popping up after the fact for me too in too many cases! Would you say that Humbrol’s Khaki is a good match?

I think Humbrol Khaki is a reasonable match . It’s certainly a browner colour than the later khaki/green. I have a view that an armoured vehicle looks like the last field it drove through and that searching for an exact colour match on a weathered vehicle is pointless. Maybe I’m too easily pleased !!

EXACTLY! Use it as a starting point. AFV’s have a habit of wearing what they drive/go thru… kind of like myself as a kid…[:D]

Talk about a kit that just falls together beautifully! The hull is almost done and I am just loving it! Although I did have a brief succumbing to AMS and replaced the kit supplied mesh with brass screen. I will have some pics posted shortly of progress so far…

With missing-lynx’ search function finally up, I dug up this inconclusive but informative discussion thread about RMASG Centaur colors:

Thank you very much T-26! That link was helpful in that it had a link to a photo posted which answere another question I had about these vehicles…wading trunks. Knowing the variances in color films can put this shot in perspective of actual colors. Great stuff!!!

This is a great reference shot for my research, although I dont intend to model this specific vehicle, just one from that time/place

This kit has been a real gem to build! It practically puts itself together and fits so nicely! The only modifications I have made to assembly were replacing the kit mesh with brass screen, and drilling out the co-ax machine gun muzzle. Here is the nearly finished kit ready for initial painting
