I spent most of my time building things with wings, but do a ship now and then for a little change. This was little indeed. Just a few modifications to bring out a little more life.
First, I brought the aft elevator to the fltdk level and plugged the holes for the prepostioned a/c.
Dry brushing of the fltdk and painting of the planes
I use a microscope for my work so I brought one plane in to see what I could do with it. I folded the wings and made a prop out of .00275 wire. I also painted the markings by hand using my opti-visor.
I bought the kit and have many plans for it if my 46 year old eyes will let me super detail it, but the most annoying thing I see with my kit is the island has massive sink holes on both sides.[censored]
Oh well, I’ve dealt with worse. The main thing I plan on doing is scratch-building the entire foremast.
First off, thank you Gentlemen for the kind words.
I didn’t fold the wings because I lost two aircraft when I scored the wings to fold them. They broke off and disappeared into the blackhole that sits next to my workbench. At that point, it started to become a build that I didn’t want it to become. Time consuming. Sometimes I have to get past my alligator mouth/hummingbird rear end attitude about modeling and leave well enough alone.[:)]
I like it. I did this kit too, also quick and fast (and not as detailed as your build). Hadn’t done a ship in 30 years, and I wanted a little change of pace.
Your build has inspired me to attempt a similar project. I have several old Pyro and Life-like kits of USS Lexington. So, I thought I’d detail one of these. I carefully trimmed out the hanger screens and have added a hanger deck so far. Pics when I get a little farther.
