I actually finished this last April for the Superdetailed GB, but neglected to take pictures for so long that the GB is now over! As usual, I started to write this up to post on my website and had a few paragraphs up when I saw the latest issue of FSM. They are having an article contest (top prize is $1000 US!), so I’ll post here and then try my luck submitting a detailed build article with more pictures. I encourage everyone to enter - that’s some serious modelling money if you win. [:D]
This is based on the Hasegawa 1/48 Kawanishi N1K2 ‘skeleton’ kit, besides the base engine, cockpit, and the PE fuselage ribbing, everything else was scratched built. Your suggestions, comments, and criticisim are most welcomed
very nice cutaway. These are dificult and timeconsuming to do. I have done a Sopwith camel, and am curently working on an Airfix 1/24 Harrier cutaway so I can apreciate what you have acomplished.
inpw1, A 1/24 Harrier cutaway? I would love to see that, any in progress pictures?
Marc, unfortunately I wasn’t too productive last year. After this, I only built one more, a Dragon 1/48 Ho229 - no contest winner for sure, but it was fun. I’m writing that one up for a UK magazine, I’ll take some pictures this weekend. I’m going to try to get a 1/48th sherman done before April, maybe if I really hussle I can sneak another plane in.
impressive work, cutaway and well weathered. you got a few hours invested in that build. I’m not a big fan of cutaways,(being a detail hound you would think I would be), but yours has loads of intricate detail. I like a model when every time you look at it you see details you missed.
Thanks Phoenix. I know what you mean about details you missed, thats one reason I like cutaways - looking at different angles, you always get to see something you haven’t noticed before, not to mention you get a better understanding what those hatches & panels are for.
Beautiful build. That level of detail is what I’m honing my skills toward.
One thing though-isn’t it Shiden Kai?
The Shinden(J7W1) was an experimental pusher with canards that was waiting on jet engine development. Two were built, total flight time less than an hour.
Allen, thanks for you comments and you are correct, misspelling on my part - I’ve must have done that half a dozen times already. Thanks for the correction.
