CURTISS F 5 L question

Hi guys!!! I was looking for a future project, and I was thinking on a classic biplane, I build Argentinean schemes only, and in my search I found that my country bought 8 Curtiss F 5 L, and reading more I learn that this plane actually was a USA licenced building of a British desig: the Felixstowe, is that correct, and if it´s true there are some diferences between both versions??? help please!!

I always liked the Roden 1/72 Felixtowe kit and maybe this is a chance to build it. I just saw that roden ofers a Curtiss H-16, is this more close to the F-5L???[%-)]

best regards

Jeremias

According to what I have read tonight, the H-16 is smaller than the F-5-L. And Curtiss and the Naval Aircraft Factory were building the Fellixstowe, with changes. It sounds like the major change was a larger engine. a 400 hp Liberty. I don’t know if you could tell any differences between the two, looking at a model. Put one in your collection with Argentine markings and enjoy.

Jeremias, I’m not sure of the differences between the F5L and H-16, but Chorozy Modelbud did the F5L in 1/72, there was an article in a recent SAMI on it.

John do you have that issue??? if you do have it and if it´s not much trouble to you can you scan the article for me?? thank…

Wayne: maybe if the differences aren´t that notorious I will build the roden kit in argentinean markings…

Jeremias

Sorry, Jeremias, I wish I did. I found the reference to it here, where there is a picture also of a finished model, look down the page a ways for it:

Chorozy Modelbud’s web site has this page on the Curtiss F5L, they also have Japanese and British kits of the F5.
