CSS Hunley rotated to upright position

El Taino posted this link on the Odds and Ends forum. I am reposting it here for those who may have missed it:

Thanks, I had missed this. I just hope budget cuts don’t make the Hunley a victim like so many other historic ships seem to be lately.

Very interesting article. I hope they do continue to restore/preserve the Hunley and that they do more research into why it sunk. By the way wasn’t there another submersable called the David or was that just the previous name of the Hunley?

Two separate boats. You could argue that the Hunley was an evolution of the David, in that it did succeed in what it was designed to do.

Not just two separate vessels, but two different classes of vessels as well. CSS David was a surface vessel that happened to have a very low freeboard, whereas the Hunley was a true submersible. They did share a common means of weapon delivery.
