Cromwell Model's Challenger II - Finished pics

Cromwell Model’s Challenger II - all resin kit 1/35 - done for Petbat’s Commonwealth Group Build

This kit has some great detail. The thing was most of it was cast in place on the hull. A very big change from plastic models - where it is accomplished by adding detail pieces later. I can’t say it went 100% smooth but the final product was definetly worth it. There was very little PE - it all came with the kit.

All assembled

Pre-shaded

All finished

Wow, stunning job!
Excellent weathering!
That baby must be pretty heavy, too!

Thanks, J-hulk, I appreciate it !

Yeah, it’s got some heft to it. Eventhough it’s not solid, it still has some weight to it.

that’s stunning! great job, very very very nice.

Wow! What a great build! I might have to sneak one of those in the house!

Fantastic job, Jim…love the finish on this one.

Regards, Dan

That is absolutely a fabuloud build. Stunning is a very appropriate description! Would you share your painting/weathering techniques??

Wow, that is really cool, the finish work is superb, good one JIm…

beautifull piece there Jim [;)]love seeing your work, keep it up [:p]

[:D] very nicely done,great work.

That’s an awesome model. Did the kit have decals or did you have to find aftermarket decals?

Thanks, guys your comments are appreciated

Geoff, Bismark, Dan (thanks again),Jason, Crockett, Maffen, gdarwin, Kaleu - thank you

Here’s more pics in progress

Look at that detail ! I didn’t even touch it yet

Instructions - could have been better - guess they don’t want to make it too easy

Link and length tracks from kit -I probably should have gotten other ones

Couple tries on getting the color straight

This went together okay - little bit of an issue with the suspension and the tracks didn’t come out as well as they should have. As I look now there are some things that probaly could use a little tweeking - but it’s fine for now.

Jason - finishing - preshaded w/dark brown

  • coat of Tamiya dark yellow/desert sand mix with lighten coats - concentrated in the center of panels
  • pin wash of burnt sienna artist oils in cracks and crevices
  • a little strategic drybrushing - w/ lighten color and silver (tracks)
  • decals
  • dusting over decals and whole model w/ buff

Kaleu - those decals came with kit - it had a couple more options

Thanks again for all your interest guys and good to hear from some familiar names

Fabulous build. Well done [tup].

Regards, Rick

Without question, one of the nicest Challengers, I’ve set my eyes on. Your finish work lends great credit too a beautiful kit. Thanks for sharing your work, and techniques Jim! You can sure be proud of the job you did. Semper Fi, mike

Thank you!!

Rick - Thanks for your nice comments

Mike - Thanks as well, but, wow, I’m no Steve Zaloga - just a regular guy like you

Jason - no problem !

Very good job on the kit! I have yet to tackle my own resin kit, as soon as I have the guts to open it.
