Creating a texture for seat cushions

Does anybody have any suggestions for creating a texture similar to a canvas type material? I am in the process of building an Academy 1/35 M1025 Armored HMMWV and I would like to create a texture for the perfectly flat textureless seats. The humvees I drive in the Army have a heavy duty canvas type upholstery on them that is unlike any I have seen anywhere else. I read in an article quite some time ago about using Skoal Bandit tobacco pouches for sandbags and thought I might give that a go. Any other ideas before I jump in and ruin an otherwise decent build thus far?

You could try liquid cement stippled with a China brush. If you can find the FSM article by Bob Collignon in the two part detailing a Sherman. He uses this technique to “texture” equipment on the turret.

Test it out on a scrap seat first and see how it works.

I used 2- ply Toilet tissue, separated to one ply and coated with diluted white glue on my Sdkfz 7 - finished with Tamiya acrylic red brown they came out really cool:

Outstanding! I love the idea of the toilet paper and judging by the photo it’s exactly what I was looking for. And the stippling idea will be perfect for the GP small that is attached to the back of the vehicle which already has some texture but no real depth (I’ll have to look into ordering that back issue of FSM, it sounds like a good one for my library). Thanks a ton fellas, you’ve both been a huge help.
