I will be working on a cape for a large figure and I need to get it done this weekend.
I’m planning on using either Magicsculp epoxy putty or Greenstuff epoxy putty from Citadel/ Games Workshop. I haven’t used either medium much but plan to have my rough design roughed out to shape and size first, and then mix/ roll /flatten the cape out flat, apply it to the surface with vaseline, and begin working the folds and “motion” into the cape. The figure will be in a hard turn from the waist, bringing the hand weapon to bear.
Has anyone ever done anything like this, and what do I need to watch out for?
I’ve never done anything like that but I’d sure like to see a tutorial if it works! I’m looking for a good method to build a folded (opened) fabric style sunroof for an automotive build.
Here’s something that works for Duro (blue + yellow ribbon epoxy). It may work for the others.
Make a paper pattern to get the approximate size of epoxy sheet you will need.
Mix the necessary amount plus at least 10%. Knead thoroughly, flatten the blob and place between two sheets of wax paper. Use a rolling pin or a big wooden dowel rod to roll it out to the desired thickness.
Use the paper pattern to cut out the cape shape from the epoxy. Drape this over the figure and work in the creases and folds. If the animation is particularly energetic, you may need books/blocks/bottles/whatever to hold the cape in position while it sets.
