Crazy MiG-21

I normally don’t get into modern jets. My IPMS Club had a MiG-21Club Build a few months back, and I’d been working on one for that, but never finished. So it’s been sitting in the box.

Next month, we’re having another Club Build, what we call a “Tiger Meet”. The theme, basically, is Tigers. Flying Tigers, Tiger tanks, tiger stripes, planes called Tigers… etc. I’d not planned to enter anything in, as I did not have something Tiger related I could build.

Then I saw a bottle of orange paint on my paint shelf… and remembered the MiG-21 (an Academy kit in 1/72 scale).

So I figured if maybe I just blew some paint on it, masked it off, and see what happened…

I was cracking up… I did this in a total time of maybe an hour… 45 minutes of which was tearing masking tape. It’s not decal quality, but it looks pretty darn cool! I love it when something comes together like this!

Hi Jon, been a while since I’ve been here but for some reason I’m posting again. hey yer -21 looks really cool.

OMG jon is building something other than spitfires[:D] looks good.

Great job Jon[:D]

[:O]OMG!!!

What IS this world coming to?

Nice work, looks like a really fun project Jon! [tup]

It is indeed a Crazy Mig. looks like you had fun Jon & that’s the main thing.

Regards, Rick

Great work on the Mig-21. Having fun is truely the “name of the game.”

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Like I said, it kinda surprised me how well it turned out. Now I wish I’d have spent more time on the tape tearing![:D]

Not at all Jon! Very cool finish! And glad you didn’t overspray onto that interesting open fuse in the background!

Thanks!

The kit in the background is Academy’s I-16, with the resin interior upgrade by our very own ModelNerd, Mark Buchler!

What, no Spitfire [%-)]

Great looking Mig

Jon,

I knew I saw something like that before … in a reality [:)]

Here we go, your imagination was very, very close to the real thing… look at those pictures [:)]
