Correct Vallejo Colours for German Armour

A local shop has started stocking the Vallejo Model Colour paint - I’ve seen them advertised but never in any local shop.

From a German armour perspective, what would be the correct Vallejo colours to paint a three colour camo scheme i.e. yellow, brown and olive?

Click on UK Flag, (nice change that! [:P]) select Model Air from topic list, then read:

Color Chart, User Guide, & Equivalencies Catalogue (20 page PDF) for loads of info.

Please note that Model AIR is for airbrushing & Model COLOR is for brush painting… colours are the same but different viscosities…

I would suggest getting some of the retarder and thinners for them as well, makes working with them a real pleasure, they can also be thinned with IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) but I find this dries my Badger 100 ab tip quite quickly.

Model Color also hand-brushes well, with acrylic brushes, just shake bottle & drip paint into 35mm film cannister or lid, with a little retarder & thinner, & no obnoxious smells either, which is a definite plus in my book, & easy cleanup with IPA & water.

Your hobby shop should have leaflets which list the main Humbrol/Taymia colour eqv’s as well… (not Haze Grey or Deck Blue, but that’s another storey!)

There is one vendor who lists Vallejo sets on £b@y, who also lists the vallejo numbers making up the sets… [;)]

Hope this helps you make up your mind, but is definitely worth trying!

vallejo do two panzer sets, the lagerer set is set number 7 ww2 aleman ww2 german No801-806-997-818-845-861-868-871-912-920-946-950-951-992-995 set No8862-872-879-880-890-978. these are the model colour numbers which can be thined & air brushed hope this helps Alan.

question for you about model air. i have a few of the regular colors for brush painting, and i love the squeeze tip and how clean it is. also how long they last, because all you need is a drop or two and it covers quite a bit of model. but with the model air, how big are the bottles? i can sometimes go through a whole bottle of pollyscale on one tank. do you normally go through a bottle fast, being that its viscosity (sp.) is thinner?

Model Color (white top) 17ml bottles are better suited to brush painting with nylon/prolene erm… brushes! they can be thinned & used with air brush.

In my (4-5 month experience) with them, it’s easier to use the Air to a/b with, 'though I make no claims for my own expertise, I’ve still got a lot to learn.

Model Air (Black top, 17ml) are pre-thinned for a/b use, but could be brush painted.

I bought a model color ‘starter set’ & top up colours depending on if i intend to a/b or b!
Paint numbers are the same, regardless, Their website & leaflets bear carefull study as well, which is how i learned about the differences, and about thinners/retarders

I like the ‘shake-n-drip’ very economical, & so far (4-5 months), have only just started my 2nd bottle of thinner at 27ml, & used about 1/2 bottle of IPA, though… your milage may vary… [(-D]

Indeed. I’d say Vallejos are the most pleasant-smelling paints I’ve ever had. Their German grey has a sort of a lemony smell.

But they taste horrible.
