Per Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12.8_cm_Pak_44 , the weight on this sucker was 22,400 lbs making it just over 11 tons. An Sdkfz 8, at 12 tons towing capacity, would’ve been the minimum requirement for towing. The Sdkfz 7 was only rated at 8 tons and couldn’t handle it on its own.
