Anyway, it shows three containers, the leftmost a stock container in process of being painted.
The center image shows the first hacked container. Lot of work, especially at edges of hacking.
Third container, on right, shows the problem. There is a groove in the top edge of the stack, that allows the top to sit down in the recess/groove so it is flush with top of sides. It would be very difficult to rabbet that groove into the faces and sides after cutting away a row or rows. I made my own top piece but it doesn’t look great.
My next idea is to narrow the top piece that I cut off the kit top, so it will fit flush inside the opening. However, to keep it from falling inside, I am going to glue little angles inside the faces so it will be supported while the glue drys. Stay tuned.

Is this the image that you want to post. If so, what you need to do is, in your photobucket account, do you see how under each picture, there are four lines of different ‘codes’. One is labeled ‘E-mail and IM’, one ‘Direct Link’, then "HTML’, and finally "IMG’. The code that you want is that last one - the IMG code. Simply highlight it. Copy it. And paste it into your posts whereever you want the pic to fall within your text.
I`ve seen the Colombo Express. Kinda expensive for a 1-700 ship model-especially on E Bay.
About a year ago, I built the IMEX Tomaya container ship. Kinda toy like, even has motorizing proisions in the hull. It does come with 17 containers in various sizes, and they are fairly well done. They build like boxes, but if you paint them different colors and add a few different colors to each container, they look pretty good.
This must be a re-issue because, as far as I know the original IMEX kit did not come with containers.I think it is in 1-550 scale.
I added some PE railings, a radar unit, and a crane boom to the model. It looked pretty nice. I had it on display at a show, but a collector who has a friend that serves on this ship wanted to buy it from me to give as a gift. His offer was very generous, so we called it a deal.
Fairly simple, but fun build. I live near the Verazanno Narrows bridge in Brooklyn. Research was a breeze because many container ships enter NY harbor on a daily basis. The “scenic view” area on the Belt Parkway is a great place to watch ships and boats especially on Saturdays and Sundays when the cruise ships come and go. Was there on a Tuesday afternoon about three weeks ago. The replica of the HMS Bounty came in, but under engine power, Still, it was a great sight.
Don, thanks for posting that photo. I had assumed that varying that container stack heights would be straightforward and simple hack jobs; it appears I was mistaken sigh
I think the price is quite reasonable compared to Trumpeter and Tamiya kits. Don’t buy it on eBay. I bought mine from Roll Models.
There is little comparison with the Imex kit. Fortunately I had not started the Imex model before I got the CE. I am going to give the Imex kit to my grandson. The Revell kit is fully as good as anything I have built from Tamiya or Trumpeter. The fit is beautiful, the detail is really good. Everything but the containers went together perfectly. The container stacks are a bit tricky getting the first vertical panel at a good right angle to base, because the locating lugs are a bit too small. But once that joint is good, the rest of a container stack goes together fine.
Since I am hacking the stacks, I expect doing the stacks will take me more time than the rest of the ship put together!
