Compressors: AC100 or AC200?

Greetings…

I’m looking to update my Mini Blue Testors air compressor, to an AC100 or AC200. (The current airbrush I’m utilizing is an Aztec A430). What is the difference between these two compressors besides the price? Should I look into an entirely different brand of compressors? My budget is two hundred dollars (I might go a little over if I could find a good deal). What do you recommend? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks.

I would look at this Paasche compressor D3000. It is oil free, and has a small storage tank . And for a little more (total of $207 and FREE shipping from Dixie Art) you can ge the Regulator and moisture trap.

I bought this one and am quite happy with it thus far.

FAA, Thank you for your recommendation and reply

I clicked on the link and read the brief information on the D3000. I like that it’s compact, (because I don’t have much room to store modeling equipment), and most important it’s under a reliable name too. I have to do some research on this. Truthfully, I thought people would be posting right and left on what they would recommend and from experience [%-)]. It would have given me all sorts of ideas since I don’t know too much about compressors and compressor accessories.

Sorry took me so long to get back. WOrk and family life ya know

I have used the Paasche twice now…and REALLY like it. The only thing I dont like is the compressor does cycle a lot (especially if your spraying at 20+ psi) due to the small tank it has. But the compressor is VERY quiet… more of a humm. If I had went with a Lowes 10-15 gallon compressor… those puppies are LOUD!

I would definately say GET A MOISTURE TRAP. I get quite a bit water in mine each time I use it…and its only like a $20 addon…

Enjoy and let us know how it goes!

Hey there FAA! No need to apologize for the long reply, my replies can be long too!

The Paasche compressor looks really good–it fits my needs well. It will be half a year before I purchase a new compressor, so I’ll still be browsing around though. I also have too see if it will adapt to my Aztec. Thanks again for recommendation.

Sean - if you’re using the vinyl Aztec hose like mine had, it should screw onto a 1/4" NPT connector just fine (which happens to be what the compressor will have coming out of the regulator of moisture trap)

If not bring your hose to a hardware store and you will be able to find an adapter there that will fit in the airbrush section…

oh by the way… I think you will be impressed with ANY compressor after the Blue Ice, I had one too and it was really a nice upgrade getting a real compressor. I have one of those lowes models but the noise doesn’t bother me or the wife.

Good luck!

Thank you Tho9900…

It’s good to know I can adapt to a new compressor besides Testors. I had the blue ice compressor for about two years now. It works will when I’m airbrushing my tiny 1/72 models— it’s a real pain spraying one spur from a 1/35 kits. I found out not to long ago…[V]
