I just came across this and thought someone here might be interested.
You will need a voltage step-up transformer though as this is a 230v compressor like mine is. [:D]
too bad i just went and bought a new and very loud compressor from sears. i just got too much oil and moisture from my frig rig. but, i have the compressor out under the carport and i can barely hear it when im spraying anyway. now my neighbors may not appreciate a compressor kicking on at 11:00pm. im a night owl and live on about 6 hrs of sleep. what would you do mike, have to convert the wire apparatus to 120V? i may just keep my eye on that for the heck of it. thanks, later.
You can’t convert these to 120V cheaply as I already looked into that so forget that idea. [;)]
I bought a step-up transformer for $59.99 from VoltageConverters.com.
I bought the 1000 watt model for my Jun-Air although you may be able to get a smaller rated one for less money for the compressor on Ebay as it is a smaller motor.
Here’s a link to those converters if you are interested: http://www.voltageconverters.com/voltage_converters.html
Mike, that is a sweet deal on Ebay. I would try and get it but I am building my own silent compressor. I have all the parts and just have to assemble it. Saltydog the frig rig you mentioned-was that a home made compressor?
John
too bad they dont have an envious smilie because i’d be postin’ a hundred or so of them. thats very cool mike and im happy for you. so is your spouse going with you? whats the date and location again? thanks, later.[tup][tup]
yes john, it was cooked up at my workbench about a month into this hobby. i have a friend that is a maintenance man at a local low income housing project and they replace the frig in each apartment after 2 yrs or so. you know how the government is. anyway, i gave him a call one day and the next he had 2 friges sitting on my lawn. so i quickly extracted the motors and converted my Cambell and Hausfield compressor over to a silent compressor. it works great except for the oilly water it pumps through the lines. i have a filter right out of the gate which fills to about half full in about a month and the tank fills with moisture too and then i began noticing an oilly residue in the bottom of the moisture trap coming out of the tank. i started having trouble with my airbrush not spraying correctly and every once in a while a blurt of water would come through the ab when i was just holding the trigger down. i probably have 2 really crappy frig motors though. im sure i could get a better motor and solve my troubles but they are around $120 brand new so i decided to go back to the loud compressor and put it in under carport away from my workbench and family. and, im a happy modeller again. later.
hey, if you can look up murraykish on this forum, he has good advice on a home made frig set up. also, look in the Osprey “how to use an airbrush” book as they explain exactly how to build one. thats where i got the idea. later.
