Completed view of the 52

Greetings,

Broad sword calling Danny boy…Broad sword calling Danny boy…

If you saw the movie “Where Eagles Dare”, you might recall that was the beginning of the radio evac. message Richard Burton used to call in a Ju-52 to pick him up and escape to England. It’s that aircraft that inspired me to build this kit. I hope I don’t get flamed for this camo pattern, but it’s similar to the movie plane. Apparently no Luftwaffe aircraft wore these markings, but I liked the looks of it in the movie, and decided to go for it. I guess this falls into the “what if” catagory.

I finally got this beast finished, except I still plan on opening the two cargo doors, and add some rigging. If you recall this is the Pro-modler 1/48 Ju-52.3m. I can highly recommend this kit. Great detail, and excellent fit. The only real problems I had was getting the decals to conform to the corregated panels. But that is a whole seperate post in itself, but I won the battle. All paint was MM enamels with the squiggle sprayed free hand. I really enjoyed this build and I hope you guys like her.

Cheers,[:)]

Jerry

Very nice!! Auntie Ju would be proud!!! [;)]

I bet that open gun position would be cold in the winter. Great job. A little side note I saw the movie Where Eagles Dare in a double feature with Kelly’s Heroes at the drive in. Both with Mr. Eastwood. That was a good night.

One of my alltime favorite war movies, and I actually had the same thought about building this a/c with the paint scheme. I’m glad someone else had the cojones to do it. It looks fantastic and I guess I’ll just have to add this to the list of “to do’s”. Yours looks superb. Thanks for sharing.

lovely 52!
great job on the camo.
my saying goes, “if you like it, go with it”[:D]

Great looking plane! I wouldn’t worry about the paint job (which looks great, I might add…), it’s not inconceivable that a similar paint scheme didn’t show up on the Eastern Front at some point during the war [;)].

Wonderful work Jerry.

Very nice looking build. I wouldn’t worry about anyone flaming you, if you like it that’s all that matters.

Hey Dragonfly that turned out really nice !!!

Way to go with your gut instinct! You sure churned out a winner there!
I enjoyed seeing the pictures of progress as you went from stage to stage. Way to build up the suspense!
Great results, Jerry!

That looks really nice, I doubt anyone’s gonna flame you for that!

Pretty cool, and besides, who cares if no pics exist, it still looks awesome!

Awesome camo scheme![8D]

Thanks Jeeves.mkelley,Jinithith2,martin,Bryan,Olsen, mucker, waikong, and Jay. The comments are appreciated.

Matthew,
I think we discussed this before, and I hope you go ahead and build one or these too. It’s a great kit and would look good in any markings, but I think you should do the movie plane also, then we could start a squadron. LOL

necrobaren,
After viewing the movie, I just assumed this was a legitimate camo pattern, mostly because of the way the plane blended into the mountain background. If it wasn’t real camo, it should have been because it was so effective against the snow and rock.

Again thanks to all for the compliments

Dragonfly

Hey Dragon i was just wondering, whats on the bench for you next. At the moment i’m working on my ju 52 (becaus as you know )you inspired me to get the same kit . Its coming along quite well and i’m yet to add a gloss to the interior parts for an oil wash. I just wish i could post pictures but 1: I dont know how and 2: the digital camera i have just doesn’t take good close up miniture shots. …oh well ! Thanks again for your posts and i really love your finished bird !!! …Peter.

Nice job, dragonfly !

I like the scheme, regardless of whether it was operational or not.

Well done !

Beautiful job on the Ju-52. It is a very feasible paint job, whether any photos of full scale exist or not. Thanks for posting.

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

Thanks Pix and Darwin. Coming from you two, those are definitely welcome comments.

Peter,

I’m currently working on 2 group builds.

1/48 Hase. P-40E…great kit ooob GB
1/48 Trimaster Fw190-9…also excellent but intimidating Langnasen GB

Things have been kind of slow, because I wanted to finish the 52. Now that’s out of the way, I’m making some progress. The p-40 cp is painted and detailed. I’ll probably post some pics soon. Good luck on you Tante Ju, I wish you could post some pics. It’s really not that difficult once you know how. I recommend Photo bucket as an image host. Also, on your camera, see if there’s a close up setting, (little flower icon), that should let you get close enough for cockpit photos. And thanks again for the good words mate!

Dragonfly
