Completed Tamiya 1:48 Avro Lancaster BI/BIII

To my fellow forum members,

After building a modern day jet, the Skyhawk of which was a fun build and something different for a change. I decided on going back to WWII aircraft. I picked a classic in that of a Tamiya 1:48 Avro Lancaster.

The instrutions are vague at best and I’m going to have to read and decipher the Japanese instructions to concur and verify the English instructions. Wish me luck!

Toshi

These are the Japanese assembly instructions.

This is a PDF File for the assembly instructions in English.

Styrene cement? WOW!

This kit is equivalent in size to the Monogram B-17G. It’s definately a huge project.

You can go Tamiyausa.com site and find the Lancaster kit. Some have links for the manual guide that you can print out in English version. It can’t be any different than the old one you have compared to the Lancaster kits of today.

Thank you Blacksheep214. I will definately look into now.

Toshi

Looking forward to your build as always, Toshi.

Oh, and I havent seen/sniffed model cement in decades. Good one! lol

You can find multilingual instructions here: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10176188

Thank you so much Phil_H. I’m going to print this now.

Toshi

LOL! Yes, this is the first time I’ve seen model cement come with a kit.

Cool, this should be interesting, as you said a real classic kit there. And unlike an American heavy bomber the RAF painted their planes so no annoying NM finish. Plus those Eduard masks should make the masking much, much, easier.

The decals looks usable though I don’t think I’d try using that plastic cement!

Hmm, considering the apparent age of the kit, it might be a good idea to get hold of some Microscale Liquid Decal Film (or something similar) as a precaution in case the decals break up when they hit the water.

Wow, nice old kit of a clasic bomber.

Yes, I noticed that there are no MNF allied bombers, at least I didn’t find one. That’s interesting trivia Gamera! Oh no, the styrene cement will not be utilized. I did purchase some AM decals. Thanks for the read and reply.

Toshi

I did purchase AM decals for this build. From now on I’ll make sure all my decals are AM for the older kits. Thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi

Thank you, yes, it’s a classic at best. I’ve never made a Lancaster before. This should be very interesting. Thanks for the visit!

Beware of the engine nacelles to wing fit. I recall having to use quite a bit of filler on all four engines.

It is a very nice kit if you take your time and don’t mind raised panel lines

AND probably get a high-resolution scan of the sheets, just in case you have to print them on new film. Good luck, should be fun!

Tohsi, I don’t know my British bombers that well but the shot of the fuselage seems to me to have a lot of windows in it. I know the Brits made a airliner version of the Lancaster, could this kit represent that or does this version have that many windows? Tim

The fuselage windows were a feature of the early Lancs & were deleted in later production runs.

Should be a good one. I sent you a PM about the instructions.

I will definately watch out for the nacelle fit and I don’t mind the raised panels at all. Thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi

That sounds like a good plan of action, thank you for the information.
