Completed SR71 Pics

Hi gang,

Finally finished another one that I think is good enough for posting. This offering is Revell’s 1/72 scale SR71. Built straight out of the box with the gear down and cockpit canopies raised.

Finished with a coat of flat black, futured, decalled, futured again. The flat black gives a much better color appearance than the plain molded black styrene. I was going to accent the panel lines but…they are raised and my skills are not quite to the point where I would be comfortable rescribing something this big. Cockpit was dry brushed to bring out the details of the control consoles.

I hope you enjoy the pics…next on the bench…Airfix’s 1/72 F16A Fighting Falcon…

Very nice job on the build, Rod; looks great! Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one who wouldn’t rescribe that beast!

By the way, very moving website for your son; you and your wife have my family’s sympathy.

Mark

Nice build RODC, looks good.

Regards, Rick

Very nice clean finish on one of my favorite birds!

Extremely well done SR-71, RODC! Your work is impeccable, thank you for sharing it with us. My deepest condolences to you and your family over your loss, the web site is an amazing and beautiful tribute to Matthew>

Hey, alright…I love the SR-71…cool plane, and a nice model - well done.
The only change I would have made was to hit it with a semi gloss or a matt coat…the surface of a Shabu isn’t gloss.
Other than that, I like it - pretty nice for straight out of the box.
Thanks for posting the pics!.

Overall, very nice work on the Blackbird. A couple of minor nit piks. The windshield framing should be painted black, the star insignia on the upper left wing should have the single point facing outboard and the overall finish should be very flat black. The “Titanium Wonder Bird” is obviously my favorite, because I worked on it for 12 years.

Thanks for the comments guys…and the constructive criticism. When you’ve been away from the hobby as long as I was, I certainly appreciate all the pointers I receive. A while back I posted some pics of Testor’s Mustang that I had built. Steve-O (Blackwolf) was nice enough to inform me that I had installed the exhaust pipes not only upside down but also backwards[#wstupid]…I bust a gut on that one and still laugh when I look at it on my shelf.

But hey…I do not profess to be good at it. I don’t worry about historical accuracy and the like. I just build for the fun of building…albeit I hope with time I get a little better…which of course in part will be achieved with the comments, tips and advice I get from the forum.

I would like to also thank everyone for their words of sorrow and condolence and especially the PM from Lee…myself and my wife really appreciate the fact that you took the time to compose a beautiful message to us…[tup]

Ciao for now…time to start assembling the ordnance for my F16 which is currently about 0.01% completed…might have picks in another 8-10 months to show[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Great looking bird!!! The snake is one of my all time faves!!! I have the Testors 1/48 with a resin cockpit ready for glue!

My condolances to your family on your loss. God bless!!!
