Completed Revell 1/72 F-22 Raptor

My last thread of which of was the F-104, is on hold for now. After applying the base coat of which was MM Chrome Silver enamel, I knew well enough to let that cure for at least a week. I know this through experience. LOL!

I do remember my earlier attempts at NMF enamel. From smears to fingerprints, what a disaster! Until the F-104 is ready, I’ll start on the F-22 Raptor Mrs. Toshi purchased for me. Thank you for the visit.

Toshi

O, nice, iw ill be watching this. I have the RoG boxing in the stash. And nice to see you working in a proper scale [;)]

LOL! The only other kit that I built in 1/72 was the Revell Twin Mustang! LOL! This kit would be monstrous in 1/32, I don’t think I would want another modern jet aircraft in 1/32. LOL!

I’ve built only one 1/32 modern jet aircraft and that was the Revell F-4 Phantom. Due to it’s size, I had to hang the F-4 from the ceiling.

Toshi

LOL. But you want big. I saw the 32nd HK B-17 at our model club a couple of weeks ago. That thing is huge, it took up most of the table. That is the only problem with 32nd and why i am limiting my colection in that scale.

Say Toshi, this is a cool plane and it will be a cool build. I snapped some photos of a F22 a few years back at our Milwaukee Air Show. If you want some inspiration I can post a few here. Just if you want though. I don’t want to take away from your thread with my junk.

I will be watching this build. I love this plane.

Oh, please do share! I consider any thread I do as everyone’s thread. We can all share and learn from each other. I just went to the FSM forum 2008 thread by rougepink2. I’ll also be using those build pics as reference. Thanks for the help!

Toshi

Ok that sounds good. It was a long day at the airshow and when I decided to call it at about 5:30. I had just about got to my car when this gem emerged.

Whoops. This time with the images.

I hit the submit button too soon. No images. I updated the original post.

Wow, nice shot with the exhaust shock waves. Cool!

Max

Yeah I lucked out. Photography is another hobby of mine but the pilot gave me some nice angles.

To Bakster,

Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures you took! Those are fantastic shots.

Toshi

Toshi, your are welcome. Let me know if you need closer detail with any of these. I have these same images in higher resolution than what I posted, and they can be magnified a lot.

Good luck with your build and I will be enjoying seeing it all come together.

Toshi,

I see the tail markings for Tyndal, Alaska and Langley. What is your choice or is it to early?

Kevin

Thank you very much for asking, it’s never too early to ask that question. Do you have a preference, and why? The reason I ask is that I’m fairly new to building jets. I build a lot of WWII aircraft. I currently have yet to choose what markings to utilize. Maybe you can help me With some suggestions.

Currently, I’m much more concerned with the paint scheme. I’ve never seen camoflauge like the Raptors before. It’s very cool and subtle! I want to do it freehand, if a can. LOL! My other concern is the scale. I’ve only built two other 1/72 kits, a SR-71 and a Twin Mustang. This kit is much more complex than the two mentioned, not to exclude the paint scheme On the Raptor is much more complex. Thank you for that question, you’ve peaked my interest!

Toshi

I’m for Langley “FF” as I retired from the USAF there and was getting my hand on working the F-22 and if the tail numbers are correct, I touched that jet. But that is my $0.02, you are the modeler, your choice. [;)]

Kevin

Sir, thank you very much for your service. In honor of you, I will build the Langley FF! What was the tail number? I have four different tail numbers to choose from. Please let me know. They are as follows per my build sheet.

04067

05094

03047

03061

Toshi

To XF-15DCC,

Here are the four Raptors with the tail numbers and other information.

Toshi

03047 rings a bell, now not sure about the commander portion but…

Kevin

Very well, tail number 03047 it will be sir! Once again thank you for everything!

Toshi

P.S. Now, let’s see if I can pull this build off! LOL!

Cool Toshi! And 1/72nd, I thought she looked a tad smaller.

Those are some great photos there Bakster!

And great choice there on Langley. We get F-15s flying over every now and then and I assume they’re out of Langley. I have yet to see a F-22 though.
