Completed Revell 1/12th scale 1969 Camaro Z28

If you love muscle cars, and want something big, this is the kit for you. I did buy some aftermarket parts (Resin wheels, seat belts, and photo etch emblems). There’s not a whole lot out there. There is a company that offers an updated rear suspension, and disc brakes with calibers.
I tried my hand at carpet. I bought some black embossing powder. Easy to use. Apply Elmers glue where you would like the carpet to go, and slowly sprinkle it out of the cup that it comes in. Once everything is coated, I dumped the excess out of the interior onto a piece of paper, then pour it back in the cup.
I wanted a more subtle look to all the chrome pieces. I stripped the parts using Super Clean degreaser. They actually only had to sit in the solution for like an hour and a half. I used a toothbrush to clean each part, then put them in a plastic container of clean water. You need to make sure that you wear gloves when you use this.
The car will be posed in a diorama. The local dragway about 20 minutes from my house. I purchased Tamiya’s 1/12th scale motorcycle rider. Goes together great, with little to no seams visible. I got an image of the dragway logo off the internet. My local trophy shop was able to print the image out on a piece of plastic. I built a frame for it and added two poles that will go into the ground work..
For the body, I used Tamiya Fine Primer, Tamiya Italian red, and Vallejo gloss all in spraycan form. I didn’t want to use the white stripes that came with the kit. They would be translucent setting on top of the red. I choose to paint all of them. I started out using Tamiya semi-gloss black. So that I could get a uniform Sheen, I used Vallejo satin varnish once the black was dry.

That is coming together very nicely. Wish I had the room for something that size.

Everything is finished to a very realistic standard, including the driver, just awesome. Tho one part that really blows my mind are the black stripes that you’ve painted on…that is pure wizardry. Can’t wait to see it all together.

Thank you very much. I’m going to try and finish the stripes today. I’ll explain the process I used. (Very easy).

Here you go. Not to bad of a price.

Thank you. All the hoses and fan housing were painted with Tamiya NATO black. I used different colors of Alclad metal paints for the different components on the engine itself. Was very impressed that they provided decals for the engine compartment.

Thank you! I’m glad I finally pulled this off my shelf to start it.

Wonderful work so far. That red really has some good depth to it. Looks great.

I have two versions of this kit. the 90’s re-release and the Foose release. I was going to buy the latest release but not saure if tis necessary haha. THis was the first Kit I ever built back when I was a kid. Pops got frustrated with the kit and tossed it. I pulled it out of the trash and built it myself. This is my all time favorite model kit for that reason.

Good luck on the rest of your build!

That is really nice work, all the way around.

About 25-30 years ago, SAE had a pictorial of one of those big Camaros built as the Penske Sunoco TransAm car, as driven by Mark Donahue. It was highly detailed, as I recall.

The finish line, well, almost. I’m waiting on the trophy shop to make the decorative plate, and a friend to make two 3D license plate plates.
