Our club’s November theme was “Need for Speed” so I grabbed the kit off ebay and while late, just finished it.

Great job on the kit. But man that is one ugly plane.
Very well done![8D]
I’ve never heard of a 209 before. It’s a fighter, I’m guessing?
The V1 was strickly a speed aircraft designed to break the speed record in 1939. It did and held that record until 1969 when Conquest I (Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat) broke it.
The V4 was the same aircraft modified to carry 2 machine guns – it didn’t fly well and was much slower so was never developed any further. The kit can build either.

Nice job on that little guy. You don’t that modeled too often. That thing held then piston aircraft speed fo 30 years.
Stunning little Messerschmitt!
I did not know about that aircraft, and I love learning new things about aircraft. Quite a feat that this aircraft held that record for 30 years. Great looking model of a not-often-built aircraft. Thanks for sharing those pics! [^]
Very well crafted. You should be very proud of that one!
Great work on a strange little bird.
I agree wih all the comments. Shes a little gem. Top marks.

Nicely done GS [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

I like it! [^] Very nicely done!

Great little build!
Karl
Thanks for all the great comments…this aircraft came out well, was an easy build and is frankly why I love this hobby.

Very tasty work on a very cool aircraft!
Always love the odd bird, and this one has intrigued me for many years. Must have been a bear to fly with such a short moment.
This aircarft still exists!
Wonderful job!
The airplane was proganda tool more than a fighter.
Notice, NO AIR SCOOPS!
I think this machine used “evaporative” cooling system that required no scoops. A Heinkle designed fighter from the same era had that system too. It didn’t work as good as expected, plus it was vulnerable to battle damage…
Great job on a rarely seen bird, learn something new each day!
Actually German propaganda reported offically to the FAI that the record was broken by an aircraft which they called Me-109 R (R stood for record or racing) trying to pretend that the record was achieved with an only slightly modified fighter.
In reality the Me-209 was a pure racer never intended to be an operational fighter, mostly because of its evaporative cooling system, which would have made the aircraft extremely vulnerable. The idea of the V4 to be an operational fghter was more wishful thinking.
Here is a picture of the ME-209 V4 with a fake paint shop just to imply it would be in operational use:

Keep on modeling

I love seeing the oddball planes built…nice job on yours!
Hey Matt,
Do you know where she is being stored? I’d love to see this bird, even in pieces. Now, if only someone will come out with a 1/48 kit of the 209 that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg…
Cheers,
Alex
