Completed Build: Mercedes Mclaren 722 Edition, 1:24 Scale kit by Tamiya

My borther’s Christmas present, this wonderful Mercedes-Benz Mclaren SLR 722 Edition.

The kit is 1:24 scale by Tamiya, and I also used a detail kit which added a lot of realism to the engine and interior.

The kit itself is lovely to build. One tip I was given was that the engine hood has fit issues so I filed down the engine before installing it which seemed to work. The door hinges are the only disappointment - really hard to make that work, and needed a lot of tweaking. Not a kit that you want to be opening / closing the doors on a lot!

Minimal mods needed on this kit, I added seatbelts.

The exterior was an experiment that I must say worked rather well. High gloss black and then I rubbed in Uschi van der Rosten polishing powder, a product that I am endlessly impressed with. The metalic shine is super awesome, much better than anything I have been able to achieve with even 2K clear, and looks much more realistic.

Hope you enjoy it - comments and thoughts welcome as always.

Wow, that really looks sharp! Great pictures too!

Very impressive. The car looks as real as it gets. And that’s our goal as builders. Well done and great pics too.

Nice job.

Your model building is really good but what really catches my eye is your photography. Man that looks good.
