This was a very fun build. Started out with the Fujimi kit, but chopped it up quite a lot. I opened up the lovely gullwing doors which meant basically reconstrucing the interior, and decided that I wanted to be able to open the engine cover, which meant scratchbuilding an engine from some old parts and some lego.
Lots of other after market details here - seatbelts, switches, tire markings, indicators and the entire contents of the engine bay of course.
The kit itself was nice, as it lended itself to this project. Left alone, and built out of the box, I would have to say it woudl have been pretty disappointing. Really not much detail at all.

Thanks! Thats super kind of you. I’m also going to put together a post on taking photos of cars, its actually really easy and cheap to do well, and it does often surprise me that people take SO much care with their builds and then publish photos of them sitting on their workmats!!!

Yeah, the surgery was really fun. I’m actually getting really into the surgery part of my builds, inspired by some other great builders who always open everything up.
I actually really like having to solve the puzzle of putting it back together - usually involved scratchbuilding things that you don’t realise you need to scratchbuild (in this case, the triangular part at the bottom of the doors - which is based on photos of the original car, is a solid example! No idea I was going to need to do that when I chopped the doors off!!!
Yellow is sooooo hard to paint. Yours looks like a professional custom paint job on a full size ride. Superb! Oh, ignore the complainers. I like lots of pics. Gives a good chance to really see what someone has done. Love all the intricate details.

Thank you - i didn’t relaise Yellow was particularly tricky to be honest! But yes, I’m very happy with the outcome. I use splashpaints also for 2K clear, which usually comes out really well. Thank you for your kind comments!
Thank you for the kind post! I actually didn’t post any build threads for this one, sorry. On this one, the back was already separate (so even more surprising that there was no engine!!!). The doors were the only part I needed to cut out. I use tamiya saws - they are very thing although ridiculously fragile, so you need to work very carefully or they bend fast. I also bought a large saw in japan once, which is great for long straight bits. The writing is all in japanese, so I can’t tell you what its called!!!
One thing I will say - when you are cutting these things out, you will always slip, make scratches, make marks, even break thin bits off. Maybe I’m just not very good at it! But inevitably the next step after cutting is filling and sanding the marks and nicks, and reattaching broken struts etc. All part of the fun!
