Completed Academy 1/72 F6F 3/5 Hellcat Photo Opp w/Other 1/72 Builds

Today, Mrs. Toshi took me out to get breakfast at Bob Evans. It’s a all day franchise diner. It’s known for breakfast plates, especially the infamous sausages. Umm, yummy. I noticed here that everyone orders their breakfast sausages with biscuit and gravy. They dip their biscuit in the gravy and away they go.

Comming from Hawaii, Mrs. Toshi and I found that odd until we tried it. I must say, it’s most delicious! We are now official Japabillies! LOL! It’s about time, we’ve been living in Streetsboro, Ohio since 2001 of October. With being new grandparents, we’ve definately set roots here and we love it in Ohio.

After breakfast, Mrs. Toshi took me to Hobby Lobby for some model kit shopping. You just can’t beat the 40% off discount. I purchased this 1/72 Hellcat and a can of Testors clear laquer gloss spray while Mrs. Toshi picked up a Academy 1/72 F-35 Lightning II. That way we both get to utilize the 40% discount! So please sit back and enjoy this Hellcat build. Thank you forum members for your continued support!

Over all dark sea blue? Looks like a nice kit.

The F6F-3 is white, sky blue, and intermediate blue. The F6F-5 is the overall intermediate blue/dark sea blue. I’m going to build the F6F-5!

I really like the Academy 1/72 series kits, there’re highly detailed and the fit and finish is exceptional! Thank you crown r n7 for your support in my projects!

Toshi

Looking forward to watching this one Toshi.

Now for the Biscuits and gravy I have always covered my buscuits with the gravy and if I am really hungry Eggs sunny side up on top of that. Throw on a little hot sauce, Tabasco preferably, and you got yourself a meal. Mind you I grew up a northerner and didn’t move south till I was in my 40’s

LOVE biscuits and gravy! I even like grits and Collard greens. As long as its not from a can! lol

I’ll be following this one, Toshi. After my last screw up with an Academy kit, I feel that I should eventually get another one and prove I can build one without so much trouble lol.

I built this one up a while ago. If I remember correctly it went together pretty good, sparse cockpit detail but pretty straightforward build. I’m sure yours will come out much better than mine did!

If I ate biscuits, they were usually eaten with butter and drizzled with honey. I will also take the raw dough biscuit and deep fry it, only to roll it in sugar to make a hot fresh home made donut/doughnut!

So biscuit and gravy was a new concept for Mrs. Toshi and myself. Anyway, we love them both ways. Thank you for the visit and the how to eat biscuits information. I’ve got to try it your way.

Toshi

Yes, now that Mrs. Toshi and I are accustomed to biscuit and gravy, we love them. Collard green, grits, chittlins, and sweet potato pie is what I experienced for the first time at the age of 17 in Oakland, California. LOL! My neighbor introduced me to soul food! Her name was Diane Witherspoon, cousin of the great blues singer Jimmy Witherspoon. Those were some exciting times for me being on my own. The whole neighborhood was full of jazz musicians.

If I may ask, what Academy kit was this that you built? Thank you in advance.

Toshi

Which version did you build? F6F-3 or F6F-5? Thank you in advance!

Toshi

I was working on the P-40E, Toshi. The one with all of the scratch built details in the cockpit. The one that I messed up with too many layers of paint lol.

As its been sitting on the shelf of doom however, all of that paint has laid down fairly well. I may have to look a little closer. I might be able to just finish it as is.

Another nice looking kit Toshi. Seem to have had qui9te a few hellcat’s lately, always room for more.

As for the biscuits and gravy, you guys are just strange. When i was at lakenheath last year i saw some one eating that, and the gravy was white. Whats that about. And as for the biscuits, how am i suppossed to dunk that in my brew, its huge.

I believe it was the F6F-5. Which ever one is all blue. I even tried masking and painting the white “checkers”…with mixed results lol!

It’s possible Bish that the white gravy was a chicken gravy. It tends to be a lighter color than a beef or sausage gravy. Chicken and gravy over biscuits or mashed potatoes, now that’s living my friend! lol And there is your gravy lesson for the day[;)]

Ok now I’m hungry and want to build a model!!!

Me too .

Oh yes, I remember now. Thank you, I feel that the build can be resurrected as it looked great. I’d love to see a continuation of your WIP on the P-40E. It was very inspirational!

Toshi

Thank you Bish, I’ll do my best in building this kit. Think of the biscuit as a scone. LOL! Thank you for always supporting my builds.

Toshi

Ah yes, the all blue is the F6F-5. Thank you for replying back.

Toshi
