Colors questions for I-16

I’m under unearthly pressure to build, build, build and do it fast, so for a break I’ve decided to just pick something that’s quick and easy to help me relax. I flipped a coin to decide which to do.
The first choice was an OOB Eduard1/48 He-280 (BO-ring! If the instructions are to be believed, it only has a total of four colors on the entire airplane, silver/aluminum, steel, black and RLM gray. Anybody know if this thing flew in another scheme?)
The other choice was an Academy1/48 I-16 Type 10, for which I have an Eduard PE set (but not an elaborate set, just an easy, fun set). So, after a rigged coin toss, I selected the Mosca. The problem is, I have no reference for this a/c other than the profiles in Flying Colors. I’m doing the commonly modeled Nationalist Spain version with the colorful scheme that has Popeye on both sides of the red, yellow and purple tail, with red outer wing panels with an overall green color.
However, I haven’t a clue what the interior should be painted on this Type 10. The instructions say Light gray, and then give FS 36230. This doesn’t seem right for Russian a/c of the period. And what about the green? The instructions just say Olive Green. I know it’s greener than OD, but would it be the WW II Russian topside green with the underside light blue? Would appreciate any advice, as I want to do this as painlessly, and with as little stress as possible. This is going to be my “fun” build. No pressure.
Thanks.

Tom, I believe there were 8 prototype He-280’s built in differing configurations. I don’t have pics of all of them, but the 3 that I do are all in what appears to be RLM 02.

The Academy I-16 is a rebox of the Hobbycraft kit. On mine, I used RLM 02 for the interior, then used washes & drybrushing of darker/lighter greys to disguise its Luftwaffe origin. I used ModelMaster Russian Topside Green & Underside Light Blue for the airframe, but don’t know if its 100% correct. Close enough for me.

Regards, Rick

Thanks, Rick. Sounds good to me too. Hadn’t though of RLM 02, but that sounds good, too. And I have the Russian colors on hand. But wasn’t the inside of the Sturmovik some shade of gray green? I know it was a different manufacturer and the Russians were not as concerned about getting colors uniform as they were with fighting off the Nazis at their doorstep.
What is the proper interior color of the Il-2, now that I’ve brought it up? I have one of those ready for a semi-superdetail job when I get caught up. AM’s kit is unbeatable, and this time I’m going to open up the little bomb bays underneath and use all that good PE stuff to wall them off and put bombs in them. (Where do you find AM Russian bombs from the Great Patriotic War, though?)
