Color of Vietnam Era A-4 Skyhawk?

I’m not sure how color-accurate those old photos that I’ve seen on the Internet are, but I’ve seen white, light grey and kind of dark grey A-4 Skyhawks on the photos. Which one is correct?

They would have been Light Gull Gray over White.

yup, Flat for the gray, and gloss for the White

if you are building justtttt the right Skyhawk after 1971, they were Gloss Light Gray (16440), a very slightly different color than the old Flat Light Gull Gray (36440)

because most model paints don’t show a difference in those two colors, most modelers just use any Light Gull Gray and then flat-coat or gloss-coat it to match the dates

I now “cheat”, I semi-gloss overall on my LGG over White aircraft, that takes care of the people that believe that flats always “get glossy” and that glosses always “get flattened out”,this also let’s me use super-cheap Aeromaster Semi-Gloss clear for both before and after my decals, instead of keeping three clears around all the time.

(names and color differences are per John Elliot’s appendix to his Volume 4)
