A few years back I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the last remaining 450 piece 1:32 Tornado detail sets from Flightpath, through Meteor Productions. I want model my jet after Britians GR.1 from desert storm, but I don’t have any idea what the color is. It’s called pink but it looks tan? Wud up?
If you want an exact match, I’d recommend Xtracolour X32 RAF Desert Pink, available from Hannants in the UK (www.hannants.co.uk).
This is a little darker than photos of real machines and will require a bit of weathering to achieve a realistic finish.
If time is pressing, Humbrol 93 Matt Desert Yellow is a pretty good match and probably just needs a dark wash to achieve a reasonably realistic look.
Hope this helps,
Rob M.
Try Humbrol # 250, desert pink, but put a bit of white in it. According to my conversion chart, Gunze # 346 is the same colour.
On a tornado model, don’t forget to dirty up the rear end, there’s almost no such thing as a clean Tornado!
the tornado at wright-patt looked like tan to me.
Hey LFirth,
I am not sure of the exact FS color for the “Dessert Pink” but Polly S has a colour that comes close which is “Dessert Sand”.
Just remember as long as you get w/in the ball part because each a/c weathered differently.
Here is a sites that deal w/ the Tornados in Dessert Storm.
Hope this helps ya out.
