coast guard blackhawk

anyone know where i can get a kit of the coast guard backhawk, or which kit is the right version to convert. If I need to convert one, is there somewere I can get the decals?

The Coast Gaurd version is called an HH-60J Jayhawk. Unfortunately, there is no kit of one.

To make one, you can either get the 1/72 conversion from Fireball Modelworks, or the 1/48th conversion from Cobra Company. Cobra Company’s 1/48th conversion does not come with decals though, so you will still need either the Fireball decals or Hawkeye models decals for them.

I prefer the Fireball products. For either conversion, you will have to start with a US Navy SH-60B or HH-60H kit. Good luck.

thanks

had a look at the fireball conversion kit and it looks good.

got the hashawaga kit off evil-bay for $10. just need to get the cash for the conversion now.

If you’re interested, here’s how my 1/72 USCG HH-60J turned out.

I used the Italeri HH-60H kit with the Fireball decal and resin conversion set.

I also used the Eduard SH-60 PE set.

head over to my website for detailed photos of the machine.

www.angelfire.com/ca4/hlmp/home.html and link on the walkaround gallery from there.

I have all new photos from the new orleans airshow including much more extensive photos of the inside. Shoot me your Email on PM and I can send them off to you.

I went with cobra companies conversion kit I also went with hawkeye models decals both in 1/48. In my opion their both great. If you happen to mess a part up please get in contact with me because I still have a good bit of the conversion kit left, and theres a chance that I might have what you need. I also made the rotors work and added a funtioning search light ,if you would like to do the same I’ll try to give you as much help as possible. One note if you go with the cobra companies kit I think it’s instructions are based on the acedemy kit, I wouls suggest to you that you go with it, as I went with the revell kit and it caused all kinds of extra work, because the revell kit is completely different. I should’ve listened to arty. But here is how my jayhawk come out in the end.

this looks good, very effective presentation of the capabilities of the machine! Base, wave action, hoist in hover, well laid out! I love how you have the painting in the background highlighting the machine drawing the attention in and the moving down the rope. Did you use the sculpy over foam technique for the waves? I tried that and mine didnt come out very well.

My only suggestion will be for your future builds, when the machine is flying, the rotors cup upwards. As the engines bring the transmissinon up to speed you can see the rotors switch from flexing down to being pulled straight out from centripital force, and when the collective is raised to create life the rotors being to “fly” (not much but some) at that point.

Minor constructive critisism of an otherwise very well done peice!

PWB, that looks great. Great job on the display of it too. I want to build a Jayhawk model now…I’m just waiting for the 1/35th conversion set, 1/48 and 1/72 are just too small for me. [banghead][banghead][:D]

Thanks yall ,I do appreciate the nice words. PatlaborUnit1; actually the rotors do operate or function, both the tail rotor and the main, when I through the switch the rotors rise and equal out. I didn’t mention it earlier but In the background midway up on the right you can barely make out a yellow light about on 1" or so long that is part of the lighting I put in. I don’t know if you can tell but the search light works as well. On another note I tried to upload more pics but I switched to firefox and can’t copy or paste my own pics. If someone could tell me how to do this I’d grrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaattttttlllllllllyyyyyyy appreciate it !!![bow]

WOW , those USCG HH-60J Jayhawk helo kits rescuehawk and prowannab built are awesome… I didn’t realize that there was an aftermarket/conversion sets available in my ‘‘neck of the woods’’ . I checked out Hawkeye Models web site and today I sent away for a 1/72 scale HH-60J Conversion set and decals , also a 1/72 scale HH-3F Pelican conversion/decal set . I have a Italeri HH-60 rescue hawk in my stash and a second Lindberg HH-3E , which I have sitting on my workbench I was going to re-do as a Desert Storm version but have changed my mind after seeing those wonderful Coast Guard helo’s .

VERY cool! they rise on thier own! SWEET!

I use firefox too, latest version. True, you cannot copy in the conventional manner but there is a way around it that I use. let me get back to the house and remember how to do it and Ill post it up for others.

Thanks yall, here are to short vids that one shows the props although it’s before the jay was complete you can still see what I mean, the second is of the lightning in the background. I think it still looks a little funky but it’s alright I suppose. PatlaborUnit1: I think I figured it out. I clicked on the tree pic above in the reply section copied it there and erased the small img tags on both ends and it works a little more work but still effective.

p.s. just click on the link and that will direct link you to the vid
