Clouding with microsol/microset

Hello

I’m just finishing up my 1:72 scale Lancaster, after spending too many hours fixing newbie screw-ups, and I’m finally putting on the decals. I used MM acrylic and Tamiya acrylic paints with a couple of coats of Future. After following the directions with using Microset then Microsol for placing the rondelle decal on the wing, a lot of white precipitate or fogging occurred on the finish that I can’t blot off, making the model look like a piece of crap. Has this occurred to anyone, and does anyone have a suggestion on how to recover this disaster?

Thanks,

Rob

It’s likely moisture trapped in the clear coat. It can happen if you spray when the humidity is high.

I have to be careful here in hot, humid Florida - the worst was when I clear-coated a Blue Angel F/A-18 that ended up looking like it was covered with frost. Short of stripping the finish off and starting over there is no easy fix.

The best solution is to get an in-line moisture trap and don’t spray on humid days.

Decal setting agents are known to occasionally cause fogging in Future, especially if the Future coat isn’t fully cured. The usual fix is to shoot some more Future over the fogged areas. Don’t try any “manual” methods (eg, rubbing/sanding) to remove it, just respray the clear coat.

What Phil said. I have had that happen frequently using Mocrosol with Future. Sometime the cloudiness goes away on its own, sometimes not. I’ve never had a problem with cloudiness after putting a second coat of Future over the decals. Just give the Microsol a few hours to completely dry first.

Thanks everyone for your help. I added some more Future and it was gone. Now I’ll go ahead and add the rest.
