Clear coat over light pigment jobs

If you do a good light pigment / dust effect job on a piece of armor, what is the best way of sealing it? Or should you seal it? I am having trouble putting a final clear coat on the pigment without it washing out. Do you know what I mean? Thanks

Rob

I’ve always read that you should not seal it. I leave mine until the very end and then handle as little as possable.

I agree, in my limited experience it 's best to apply last, sealing it removes a lot and changes the effects color on what remains.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it,

To add to what the others have said…I’ve found that sealing pastel/dust effects darken a lot when sealing them as well, making it hard to determine the actual look that you’re intending to achieve.

I don’t do any sealing,adding them late in the process,limited handling,and I don’t have any problems.

Agreed. Pigments are my final step in weathering. The one time I did seal pigments, they disappeared. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the advice guys! I’m not sealing it from now on

I will ony add if you feel you must seal it with an airbrush, use a flat clear. Use low pressure and maximum distance - basically want a mist of clear falling onto the pigment, not being forced on.
