Ive been using an arts & craft gloss clear coat and its just not doin the job. I tried doin a black wash using enamel over the acrylic thinner & and it ate right thru to my chrome enamel painted trim.
I have about a half gallon of mixwax polycrylic, that i had originally used to cover some furniture i made. Now, i have painted this stuff onto a model with good results, but has anybody tried spraying it? If so, how did you thin it?
Also, im going to try using household aluminum foil on my next car for trim. Ive seen all types of glue mentioned in tutorials, & probably the kost popular, foin adhesive, i cannot find.
Went to Walmart to try it with the modge podge glue, and instead i found something called E600 Spray Adhesive. It stayes on the bottle, that it works on pretty much everything, including plastic and foil. Does anyone have experience with this glue?
Tried the adhesive spray. It takes a bit to dry. 1st attempt got messed up, but i dont think this came out bad for my 2nd attempt using foil. I just pressed everything in with an applicator & cotton swap. Applied pressure…repeated every few seconds for about a minute, then set it down for an hour. Its on there pretty good now.
Only con was that i messed up my paint near the trim when i was removing the chrome paint. Will need to tape and respray the blue on bottom of the door panels i think.
Listen , I read your post and I believe I have the answer for you .Do you get either a Micro-Mark or Squadron catalogue ? If so you can order the adhesive from them .You will NEVER find something like that at Wally - World .( I used to work there and Toys and Art supplies were my departments .
As a matter of fact .Some here have said recently that Wal-Mart was selling models . I know five local managers and they checked and the answer was NO ! Unless it’s a trial at the District level . Tanker - Builder
For the clear coat question, I suggest you ask in the Painting and Airbrushing Forum.
For gluing tinfoil, contact cement is the normal choice, and I have used a couple of different brands successfully, but the backing already on the foil with Bare Metal Foil sure saves a lot of work and grief.
Thanks for the great info guys! I bout some foil tape from hvac dept. of lowes. I know thats incredibly sticky but im gonna either try to reduce tackiness or tape off around the trim. Then i can just cut the tape and lift the masking tape with the foil on top of it.
Btw, just picked up a Revell Porsche 918 Spyder. Body will be German Silver Metallic by Model Master. Will probably be a bit before i get to it, but im super excited about it!

Also, an update on the foil. The E6000 worked, but it stays wet too long, and on big wheel wells, theres too much slipping.
Then i tried hvac foil tape. It has perfect tackiness, but its too thick. Not nearly malleable enough…creases too fast.
Then i went out and bought mod podge, and a 3 pack of Aleene’s tacky glue(original, fast dry, fast grab) from the craft store.
By far, the fast grab is the best stuff ive worked with. It doesnt dry quick, but right out of the bottle its super tacky. It holds in place, yet can still be manipulated and repositioned. Its also an easy clean up with water (think: elmers with an upfront grip).
I did see your post about plastic cement btw, and i would have went there next, but was hoping to find a craft glue first.
