Cleaning resin

I have heard that resin needs to be soaked in soapy water and then scrubbed throughly to remove mould releaser amterials, but on my resin cockpit it is very delcately moulded an I’m sure scrubbin would break of some of the tiny knobs and dials and wires and such like. What should I do? Thanks.

I would just soak it in LUKE WARM soapy water, no scrubbing if youre concerned for it, then let air dry

Gentle scrubbing will be required soaking alone, IME, will not remove the stuff.

Unless you got resin mold remover which is made by a few companies in Japan, in that case dip the part for 20 second, rinse and wipe dry.

You could also soak it in de-natured alcohol for a while & then a warm water rinse. The scrubbing is more to get the release agent out of all the nooks & crannies, but on very delicate parts, I sometimes gamble that they will paint OK.

Geez, and here I’ve done a couple resin cockpits and didn’t even know you’re suppose to wash to stuff. didn’t have any problems though, what are the dangers anyway?

Mold release on the resin can cause paint to not apply properly or to not adhere properly.

I soak my resin parts in Westley’s Bleach White, the stuff you are supposed to use on white side wall tires to clean them. (anybody remember what those things are?) Rinse off in warm water after about 10-12 hours soaking. You might want to experiment with a piece of scrap from your particular kit to make sure it is compatible with the cleaner. [alien]

In addition to a good cleaning (I soak overnight in soapy water, light scrub, Rinse in hot a water) I can’t recomend Gunze’s 'Mr Resin Surfacer" enough. I don’t know about anyone else but I go nuts when my paint scrapes of the second you so much as touch it. so i go out of my way to find the best primers I can to assure a good bond! Happy Modeling!
