Cleaning Flex Sanding Sticks or toss them...

Hello All,

I looked back through some of the post last night looking for answers before I asked. I do remember seeing a post where someone was talking about the cost of the sanding stick right off. I was just wanting to get a little more life from mine before I tossed them and got some replacements.

Thanks,

Chris B

Not certain, but I think you can scrub them with soapy water and get most of the swarf out, have them pretty usable again.

During use I rub mine across my jeans to clean out some of the dust. A better cleaning that works somewhat is mentioned above, soap and water. I use dish soap and a toothbrush.

go to sallys beauty supply. they have a dozen types and grits for nails. they cost less then model sanding sticks, and they carry about 100 of each at a time. if they have what you want, get them and toss the old ones

can always use rubber cement and glue new sandpaper on them.

I found that if you wet sand using the sanding sticks, they will last much longer.

Good tip bro’. [Y]

Thanks for the helpful replies. I think I will just toss them and not be such a tightwad.

New here and hope I can help a bit… My dad is a woodworker and he, and I when I helped, used a piece of rubber for cleaning sanding drums, files and paper… http://www.rockler.com/m/product.cfm?page=5518 Certain types of rubber soles from shoes also work really well!!

usmc1371 I found that if you wet sand using the sanding sticks, they will last much longer. -Jesse I was going to say the same thing, wet sanding gives about 10x the life. keep dipping them in water don’t let the dust turn into a dry paste. I get my sticks from a beauty supply fairly cheap but I find that using automotive wet sand paper glued to an old stick works wonders and is a better paper than the stick. They last virtually forever if used wet. Also the choice of grit is much wider using auto paper. Cleaning won’t help worn down ones.
