I read the other post regarding the new WOW Tripod and without wanting to “hi jack” his thread, I thought readers would enjoy some pictures of my WOW diorama. It is 1/35th scale and the “War Machine” was scratchbuilt from plastic, brass and aluminium. The martians are sculpty clay and painted with Testors paint. The Maxim and Gatling machine gun (along with the cassions) were kitbashed, as was the seige gun. The barn and stone shed were scratchbuilt as was the wooden fence. The stone wall and ground cover are Woodland Scenic products, the soldiers and animals are from Tamiya. The diorama depicts a “poison smoke” attack on the British defenses and the lone survivor (with a red bandana around his neck used to filter out the smoke) hiding in the pig pen. Researching this H G Wells book, I learned a bit of English military history, Britian put the bulk of their military budget into their Navy (instead of their Army) as their attitude was that an invading army would have to get past their fleet. The Army in England (at this time)was mostly “home guard” (reserves) and their best troops were overseas protecting the Crowns holdings.
The model was a fun build, I was always fascinated by the Classics Illustrated graphics and the Tripod depicted in the CI magazine was my favorite example of Mr. Wells description.
Super cool! I’ll have to admit of always picturing the tripods with a more ‘steampunk’ look of lots of bolts and flat plates but still great job there! The diorama is terrific, that scene still sticks with me years after reading the story.
Awesome modeling work of one of my all time favorite martian war machine renditions, I wish there were a styrene model of this machine along with the martians from the Classics Illustrated comic book would look good along with the other martian tripods and war machines that’s available. Karl

Very, very well done! It is interesting to note the many different interpretations of the Martian War Machine, and the Martians, that have arisen in the media over the years.
