Please Help! I’m converting a Revell B-24D to the B.O.A.C. (British Overseas Airways Corporation) civilian transport version. Probelm - the Revell model has raised rivets all over whereas in the photos of the “civil” B-24 the fuselage, wings, tail etc, appear to be to be smooth. Did later versions of the B-24 have flush rivets? Thanks for any help on this matter. Jeff
ALL versions of the B-24 were flush riveted. I think the cargo version was
the LB-30
Ray
Well it looks as though I’ve got a lot o sanding to do since this Revell model definately doesn’t have flush rivets! Thanks, Ray, for the quick reply.
Hi Jeff. when you have done that Liberator can you post pics of it ? I would like to see it if you can. i have a tamia mozzie that i am considering doing as a civil transport with cammo as used during WW2 and am going to do a Lancastrian when i finally decide which scheme to do it in (any suggestions ?) glad to have another modeller on site who has an interest in the civil side of things.
BTW i know how you feel about those rivets. i have just finished sanding two revell lancasters, (OW my arm hurts LoL )…Greg
Greg, sounds s though we’re on the same track. I am also building a Mosquito and a Lanc, in addition to A Boeing 314 Clipper , Fokker Condor and Lockheed Electra 14 all in BOAC livery. I’ll be sure to post some pics when done. There are a couple of the conversion items sold in E-bay for the Lanc and Mossie both -check there- very reasonable. That’s where i buy almost all my rare kits. Good luck, Jeff
If you are modeling in 72nd ,ditch the monogram and pick up the academy
Its a much better kit
Hi Jeff. cheers, i had a look at your profile and noticed that you are into airline memorabilia. here in leeds we had the last hand painted BOAC advertisement (over an old travel agency ) unfortunatly the building was pulled down quite a few years ago and the artwork was destroyed as it was painted on the brickwork it showed the tail of a VC10 with a few passengers. its a pity that it could not be saved but i took a few photos of it a couple of weeks before its demise. some of the other civil stuff that i am going to build are two Viscounts( BEA and British Midland-if i can get the markings), two Herrons one as Shell oil’s aircraft the other will be a Royal Navy a/c a DH Chipmunk in a british civil all yellow scheme or lufthansa training school and a DH twin otter and HP Herrald. good luck with the B24…Greg
