Several years ago when I first found this site, there was a civil air GB that died a horrible death.
Anyone want to give it another try?
I was thinking of making it very broad basically open to any scheduled transport or general aviation (including non-military marked warbirds in civilian service).
Wikipedia defines scheduled transport as all passenger and cargo flights operating on regularly-scheduled routes (airlines and cargo services), and General aviation as any flight other than a military or scheduled airline flight.
To attract fence sitters I would allow government run rescue / emergency services aircraft including Coast Guard or Military rescue aircraft IF they use a brightly colored scheme (so no, an armed MH-60 full of PJ’s would not be appropriate). Research oriented X-planes would also be acceptable on a case by case basis (NASA aircraft would be fine as they are a civilian agency).
Just to spark some interest here is a list of possibilities I came up with
Obviously airlines of all types would be available
General aviation is a wide open area that includes
Airships (blimps & zeppelins)
Gliders
Aerobatics aircraft
Air ambulances
Aerial photography and survey aircraft
Traffic reporting
Crop dusters
Bush planes
Charter services
Private / corporate jets
Law enforcement
Firefighting aircraft
Logging aircraft
Exploration
Stunt / record breakers
Racing aircraft
and of course privately owned aircraft
I was looking for significant dates for a start and finish, strangely (at least to me) most major aviation events have occured in Nov-Dec, not a time of year I would think flyers would be trying something new. However I did finally find some dates that should work.
March 5th, 2007 is the 60th anniversary of the ratification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (the UN organization that encourages the safe and organized development of civil air transport). March 3rd, 1915 was the founding of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). NACA was replaced by NASA in 1958.
December 17 was the first flight of the Wright Brothers flyer in 1903, it was also the first flight of the DC3 32 years later, as both these events are rather important to civil aviation it seems an appropriate end date.
So I was thinking about a start date of March 3rd or 5th, 2007 (depending on which group people feel is more appropriate), and an end date of Dec 17, 2007.
Non fixed wing aircraft (helicopters, blimps, ballons etc) are welcome as are all varieties of fixed wing aircraft.
So any interest?
