I just bought a box of these washes. Has anyone here tried them? Did I just waste $30.00?
These are not Citadel Inks. The box says they are a different formulation.

Hi!!! you just made a very good purchase, I use the black wash all the time, for panel lines demarcations… I mix a little of citadel ink, water and dishwasher (for easy cleaning of the excess) just aplly it in the panel lines, don´t worry if you over do a litlle the dishwasher will take care of this, let the was dry and clean the excess using a wet cotton swab and clean in the direction of the air flow.
Here is a model I made using that tecqnique.
So, in my opinion you made an exellent purchase, a little bite exesive maybe, I have the same bottle for more than 3 years now haha.
ahh the mithril silver is great for NMF, an exellent look and very durable, it´s an arcrylic and cheap!!
Hope this helps, best regards
Jeremias
Isn’t the point of buying a wash like that NOT to delute it? I have the citadel wash I purchased from a hobby shop. It’s not an ink…do I still have to delute it?
mmmm I´m not sure, my bottle say INK, so I don´t know if it is the same stuff, try it both ways and see whats work for you.

I picked up a few bottles of the black wash today to try it out. I grabbed a junked kit and tried it out over an acrylic base coat. It worked out well. I would suggest adding a bit of dish soap though to aid in the cleaning up process after it has dried. It took a little bit of work to clean up the excess that had dried out side of the panel lines. Experiment on a junked kit first till you get comfortable applying the product and the clean up of the excess.
These washes were designed to simply apply total coverage to their line of minature figures then highlight paint over the wash on raised areas and detail which would explain why it was a bit of work to clean up.
I’m glad I picked this stuff up, it works well and is easy to use. And at about 4 bucks for a small jar (the basic cost of most other paints it size) you cant go wrong. This stuff will be a regular in my stash for weathering from now on.
My box set has eight jars: Devlan Mud, Gryphonne Sepia, Badab Black, Ogryn Flesh, Baal Red, Asurmen Blue, Thraka Green and Leviathan Purple.
I’m sure I’ll find a use for most of them
Thanks for the info.
I was going to pick up the whole box but figured I would never use half the colours so I just grabbed a few jars of the black.
Let me know how you like them when you start to use them.
You just picked up their new washes… Which is poured in their new Citadel Foundation paint pots.
I have no experience in these, but I’ll pick them up some day. But all my other Citadel is top notch… Haven’t had a fault ever… [:)]
Thanks for that info! I really don’t have much to test on.
How much water and dish soap should you add to the black wash?
Just a drop or so, the stuff is pretty thin as is. Like I said, your best bet would be to test out some different mixes on a junked model.
Post your results and let us know how it worked out for you =)
I’ve been building and painting Warhammer models and figures for about twenty years. The washes are excellent and have never failed me. Remember that you need to apply them over a gloss finish. They can be diluted or not but if you do, use either alcohol or windshield washer fluid (the blue kind, it does not noticeably change the color). Water beads too much for my taste.
Good luck.
Ive tried this stuff before and was reasonably impressed with it as it came from the pot but i was introduced to the Promodeller stuff. Ill never go back. The stuff is clay based and is just awesome. Check out thier website, theres a good demo of it being used.
