Chromius Maximus.

Well folks, the alcald2 "polished alluminium"is all over the P38.
Not before seam cleaning and priming though.
And now after posting the pics I spot a little blemish[xx(]
on the port wing root.Is it an optical illusion or does it need fixing?
Well better to catch it now than later.

hope you like the progress so far.[:)][:p][:)]

Can’t see anything wrong from the UK looks fine to me Good work sir

Chromius Maximus wasn’t he part of the Pretorian guard?
or am I thinking of The life of Brian and his mate Biggus Dickus

Obiwan,

I think it looks great! If the blemish you see is the darker area toward the rear of the canopy (port side, as you said), it looks to me like a natural part of worn aluminum, like maybe where the pilot stepped to enter the cockpit. If my memory is correct, the canopy opens on the port side, so that would fit in perfectly.

A fine job Jedi master. Makes me now want to try Alclad. What did you use for the primer?

Kath - I think you have him confused with Testiclese Minimus.

stinger

He has a wife you know…

The plane looks great. I am more and more impressed with the look of that Alclad.

Very nice paint job. I don’t see any blemish in the photo so if it’s there it must be very minor. Alclad2 is a great paint for NMF and looks like you did it just right. Looking forward to pics of the finished model.

Would his wife be Incontinentia Buttocks?
His Dad was Scrotius Spotticus

Thanks ,kath ,stinger ,maddafinga and Rick.

kath ,bigguss dickuss you say?Hmm gotta remember that one.not to mention the rest…

stinger ,the blemish can be seen on the 1st photo on the portside,
front of the wing root.It looks like cyano crazing. In the pic it just
looks like an uneven finish.Primer was Gunze Mr Surfacer 1000,
then a coat of tamiya X-1 Black which is gloss btw.
And I love that Do-17 ,what a beauty!

Rick , the blemish has been sanded and primed with black.
then it will be some olive drab anti glare panels.

Obiwan,

Looks GREAT! I cannot wait to use the Alclad I just bought. Can you tell me how it holds up to masking and handling? Better than the MM metalizers, I assume?

Great job again!

Eric

that looks fantabulous my friend!!![tup][tup][tup] just looking at the present photos, it looks like you did all your preping homework cause thats what makes any smooth shiny finish. good looking paint job buddy, i’ll be looking for the finished product later. later.

Looking GREAT, obiwan !

Be careful masking the polished aluminum. It, along with chrome, are not quite as durable as the other shades. Alcad also suggests not using decal solution on polished aluminum or chrome. You may already know this. I just didn’t want you to find out the hard way (which is usually how I learn ! [banghead] )

Looking forward to more pics !

Nice work Obiwan! That’s a great finish you have there, I’ll look forward to seeing more pics.

Sweet job Obiwan! If there’s a blemish there, it’s mighty small.

Hey Pixilater, can the Alclad be sealed before decaling/masking? I haven’t used it yet, but I have a few things ready for it. I was wondering if you knew (or anyone) if it was compatible with Future?

How did you do that, with the metal look.

Spare Time Pete - yes, Future can be sprayed over Alcad. I’ve done it over the regular shades, but not polished aluminum or chrome. The unmanned bomb in my Mistel signature pic was painted with aluminum, duraluminum, & dark aluminum. Only a couple panels got an overcoat (Dullcoat) to vary the look. Alcad is GREAT STUFF ! I love it.

obiwan, you are truely one of the masters. i am awed by the progress. alas i am still waiting on the b-18. (should be anyday now) the flaw that you pointed out is hardly noticable, i searched and thought it was just the pic. although i want to use foil on my two nmf birds you make a strong case for using alcad. awesome job so far. i too look forward to the finished pics.

joe

Obiwan,

Looks great!!! Have always wanted to try Alclad, but haven’t been able to find it here in Japan. Will be going to California in June, but, since it’s flammable, can’t mail it or put it in my luggage. Maybe J-Hulk will have some ideas. Will see him at the big model show in Shizuoka this weekend.

Getting tired of BMF[banghead]

Great job[bow]

Obiwan,
Looks pretty darned good to me…sometimes you just have to live with a little defect…
You know, you’re probably the only one who could see the defect anyway…

Obiwan - Thanks for the compliment. The Dornier is my first completed model in over thirty years. When I get some better pics I’ll do a better presentation of it.

The undercoat you used (Tamiya gloss black) is exactly what the LHS sold me to use with the Alclad I bought last year. They didn’t suggest the primer, but I can see why you used it. I’m definitely going to give it a try.

Can’t see the blemish you defined, but looks like you faound a way to fix it anyway. Please send more pics as this build moves along. I love the P-38, and yours is looking just awesome!

stinger

Thanks ,echolmberg ,saltydog ,pix ,TANGO 1 ,SpareTime Pete ,gunney ,
fightnjoe ,dagne ,leemitcheltree and stinger.

echolmberg ,the alcald is sensitive to sweaty fingers ,I got me some plastic
gloves and did some light polishing on it to remove previous marks.
I only have used MM exhaust metaliser I can’t really comment on them
but I may try them in the future.

salty ,I primed ,undercoated ,painted x 2 and touched up numerous times.
I just wasn’t used to the Alcad and had to learn the hard way.

pix , thanks for the reminder ,I am letting the alcad set for at least 2 days before masking. And I am not using decal setting solutions either.

gunney ,the model was first sanded to remove all unwanted seams or to minimalise them. Then supaglue(cyano) was applied to the seams to cover them. The model was wet sanded again to remove the supaglue(cyano)
but leaving the unwanted seams covered. Then it was primed with Mr surfacer 1000 and checked for flaws. For Alcad 2 the undercoat need to be gloss black.
So Tamiya X-1 Black was used for its quick drying time. Then Alcad2 “Polished alluminium” was sprayed. Finally check for mistakes and touch up.

fightnjoe ,I am glad you like my work and I am also looking forward to your
B-18 ,thanks again for the kind words my friend.

dagne , Alcad2 is available from Yellow submarine in Akihabara ,I am 100 percent sure of this…So it shouldn’t be a problem for you.
this is the link http://www.yellowsubmarine.co.jp/

leemitcheltree ,the defect has been fixed ,it was just too distracting.
I have to wait a little longer now to mask that area to paint the olive drab.

stinger ,good luck with the tamiya X-1 sprayed in light coats it dries very
fast ,an advantage over enamel gloss paints.

looks amazing Obiwan…

Unfortunatly Im in the same boat as dagne and cant figure out where to obtain alcad paints here in Belgium.
