Any ideas where I can get some fine chrome tape for detailing things like landing gear oleo’s?
It doesn’t matter what sort of width it is, even a sheet would be good as I’ll be cutting it to suit anyway - I’ve had a look about the regular modelling places but can’t really find anything & I’m thinking that there is probably some other hobby / trade where something like this will be available.
I could try foil, but I would prefer self adhesive “chrome” of some sort.
If you need to get your hands on it quick, the metallic furnace tape is available at the local hardware store and in my opinion is a little easier to work with and a whole bunch cheaper. And if you need to close up any leaks in the old furnace pipe joints, it has great adhesion qualities. Rick
I used to use that quite a bit. Initially, it was great, but over time, the adhesive would get weak and start to lift. I think the stuff was just a touch thick to be wrapping around a tiny strut, and expecting it to stay put. Now I just use Testors silver.
I found some metallic tape at Wal-Mart a few years ago that I have been using, I dont remember what its called but it can be found in the stationary isle with the labeling tape. It came in a 3 roll package with 3 colors, chrome, red and blue. its quite thin and a quarter inch wide. I cut it to width and stick it on the seal it with future. It hasn’t lifted yet one model is 3 years old. Cheap too only 2 bucks and change is I remember right.
