Christmas Special build 4 - Das Werk Wurzburg Radar

Last build of my Crimble special.

This is not Das Werks’ actual work, but a reboxing of part of Amusing Hobbys Radar and Flak gun kit. I wish they had kept Amusing’s instructions as their habit of making them look “Authentic” with fake stains etc makes things harder.

Quite a simple build really and a paint job just brings it to life. After looking on the internet I decided to go with a 1945 paint job while in reality with it being Luftwaffe equipment and the majority of photos of the equipment being quite dark then it was probably all over Luftwaffe blue-grey.

Once again the instructions in places are not easy to follow and the “Authenticity” doesn’t make it any easier. This is quite a nice offering from Amusing Hobby under the Das Werk brand and in actual fact although it is not easy to work out thanks to the instructions the dish will fold and rotate. It is a pity that the base doesn’t fold and there are no wheeled bogies to have it in transport mode.

Nice as a diorama piece or in the cabinet as a curiosity.

Nice work that camouflage turned out great.

Looking good! The paint is coming out great!

Nice job. Interesting piece.

It screams for a figure set - especially for a guy riding in the “kiddie car” thing! Tamiya’s 37mm Flak gun has some guys that might be useable. I take it the troops are supposed to be Luftwaffe?

This is Luftwaffe equipment and is a Flak directional radar. The images I have seen online point to this being very dark in colour but as it is impossible to tell from b&w images The actual colour could be the luftwaffe grey-blue that they painted their vehicles and equipment.

The box art and instructions show the threetone ground forces camo, so I decided to compromise and do a RAL 6003 overall 1945 base coat with a DAK RAL 7027 Sand Grey disruptive pattern to stand in for the correct 7028 Dunkelgelb.

quite an easy build, but not Das Werks’ own.

Very cool, I too love the camo!
