Finished this thing recently. I had one of those experieinces where I couldn’t see a seam until after painting. Across the roof is a slight blemish where I had to widen the roof. Engine came out cool I think.
Outstanding job on the old lead sled (49 Merc I think). Those were the days, chopped, channeled, lake pipes, fender skirts, louvers and flames. Yours is a beautiful representation of the early days of customized hot rods. Super job on the paint, engine, and details. Take a bow!
PS; tell us something about the building and customizing process, the paint job, and the added goodies like the engine wiring.
Sweet looking build. Love the paint job.
Very nice build. Thanks for posting those pics.
Bill.
thats beautiful Excellent Job
Awesome job!!! Beautiful paint.[tup]
Nice Merc … traditional lowrider with flames done right.
And Mike … thanks for putting my '68 Vette cartoon on your website … 'tis an honor.
Thanks for the compliments. To answer RangerJ and anyone interested, I used Model Master sprays for primer and black. I used this cool Duplicolor Mirage for the flames. For the flames I also used the stencils that Detail Master offers in the back of their catalog and Tamiya wide masking tape. I did some research and chopped then adjusted the hood and windshield frame. I wanted a basic sled that wasn’t too turned out with frenched lights, etc. Something someone might’ve accomplished in their garage. Very satisifying to finish. Glad others dig it too. That slight buckle in the roof goes across side to side. I also forgot to scribe in chrome window mouldings. I finally had a decent coat of black down when I realized it and did not want to go back again. I learned a lot from this one. Fun stuff. Hey MBT70, I love that flicking look of flames, right on the edge. Thanks for mentioning.
You’ve got a great looking Merc there, thanks for showing it off. I have one of these in the stash that I hope to customize some day. That’s a sharp paint job, well done!
The flames came out very cool my friend. Keep up the good work.
