I’m looking for Chinese fighter aircraft models in 1/72, specifically the F-7 Airguard, the F-8 Finback or the A-5 Fantan. I have seen ebay items for 1/100 scale diecast stuff, but that takes the fun out of it. Anybody know where you can get any of these kits, or if they have even been released? Or, worse yet, a site that gives tips on conversion for the MiG-21 or the MiG-19?
Welcome jdswong! I would try Trumpter. It’s a Chines company that makes some pretty great kits. Especially their new Su-27 Flanker in 1/32 scale. I am certain they have some either 1/48 or 1/32 scale modern Chines fighters as well. I believe Stevens International imports them at www.stevenshobby.com. I see a 1/32 F7EB. F7II, Shenyang FT-6 Trainer etc… Good luck!
Trumpeter makes :
_ Xian FBC 1 Flying Leopard (01608 )
_ Shenyang F8 II Finback B ( 01610 )
_ Chengdu F 10 ( 01611 )
all of these in 1/72
AA makes several F 7 , a F8 and an A5 but in 1/48 and they may be hard to find
In fact, if the scale is not a sine qua non condition, you have a greater choice ( Trumpeter for instance )
Thanks Torio, the product number for the F-8 helped me find more info. I’d love to get one of those, even though I have heard less than complimentary things about their “flying leopard”. But the internet says that the F-8 basically isn’t out yet, if I read right. Guess its another chance at patience.
Late in responding but…
AA Models (I’m starting on a 1/48 j-7e myself as part of the demonstration team Group Build) and Trumpeter as the other have already mentioned. You may want to check out this site http://members.fortunecity.com/cwlam2000/default.htm
Look at that Chinese 1/72 section and you’ll see dozens of aircraft that served with the PLA & Nationalist AF - some indigneous, mostly imported. But they list the maker also.
