Checkpoint Charlie Tanks

Does anybody know what kind of U.S. and Soviet tanks were involved in the standoff at Checkpoint Charlie during October 1961. I’m thinking they were the M-48 and T-55 but I am not sure, and it looks as if the U.S. tanks had dozer blades on them. Any help would be great. Thanks

ive seen a M60
and i think there were Abrams in the area too

ive read it again[:p]
sorry its late over here

Abrams, no I’m pretty sure there were no abrams. Back in 1960 Abrams didn’t even exist.

Don’t think so. Read the original post.

He is asking about the Checkpoint Charley incident in 1961. No Abrams there at that time.

Believe they were original M60 tanks.

From Patton-Mania website,
“Initially produced in 1959 and planned as a stop gap solution, over 15,000 M60s were built by Chrysler. The first M60s entered service with U.S. Army units during the fall of 1960. Most of the initial production vehicles were sent to Europe to offset the Russian T-54, then coming into widespread service with Warsaw pact armies.”

M60 had the new M60 hull with an M48 turret, mounting a 105mm gun and M85 cupola (as seen on all later M60 varients).

Here is a picture:

Russian tanks were most likeyl either T-54s or even JS IIIs.

heres a photo of the russian tanks
there not IS3s but they might be T54 or T55 (they look the same)

Look like T-54s to me.

Thanks alot guys. I really appreciate the help

They are T-54’s because they have the 12.7 mm machine gun on the top. The T-55’s did not have those until they were retrofitted in the 1970’s.
