Cheap cutting mat.

Hey all,

Setting up my workstation, on a limited budget. What would be a good cutting mat for real cheap. Was looking on Amazon and they have some generic one’s for not bad price. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

They all seem to be close in usefulness. Get anything to start. Just build.

Pieces of heavy cardboard work reasonably well. They don’t last long, but it is one way to recycle the stuff

Do what I did. Go down to a truck stop and look for a mud flap that’s fallen off a trailer.

Wash it, let it dry, cut to size and enjoy.

Here

$5.99 for an 11X17 Meng cutting mat. Sale will end tomorrow 12/16 at midnight.

Not a great deal considering you still have to add tax plus S&H charges. Hobby Lobby is still a better deal.

I’ve seen cutting mats located in several different areas in Hobby Lobby. Scrap booking, Artist supplies, Hobby-models, Fabrics

Hey Modelmaker66. I agree.

Hi Don. Yes, I have found in the past cardboard works fine. But like you said, you go through it very quickly.

Hey Straycat1911. I love that idea! I was also thinking spare innertubes might work. Just would have to get a pretty thick one.

I know blacksheep. To bad we don’t have them here in Canada. Waaaaaaaaaa! [:'(]

A 9x12 cutting mat at Staples.ca costs $20.00 plus 11% tax. Ouch [:S]

That is still cheap compared to here in Canada. [:'(]

Since nobody mentioned it…it’s also worth looking at plastic cutting boards and ‘vegetable cutting mats’ in home goods stores and the kitchen sections of places like Target and Walmart.

I’ve seen good-sized silcone cutting mats for half the price of comparable items from craft and hobby suppliers.

Or your local Dollar Store… You can’t get any cheaper than a buck and change…

Hey Greg,

That is a great idea! Never thought of it. Thank you.

Never thought of it Black. I have 2 in my town. Will check them out. Thanks.
