Centurion ARV/Tug

Hello there!

I am in my way to build an old Tamiya Centurion. But I have sabotaged my 20 pdr barel så I got a idea to make an very early turret less Centurion ARV or was they called Tugs?

But I need som good pictures of how it looks like. Have just one or two in an old HMSO book about British REcovery vehicles. So if someone have an idea there to find pictures of these vehicles or maybe know how they there ecuipped would be helpful.

With kind regards

Hello ,
If you can get the book Modern Combat Vehicles: 2 Centurion , by Simon Dunstan ( published by " Ian Allen Ltd " , Shepperton , Surrey ) , it has a picture of a Centurion Tug , basically a Cent MK III , no turret , and a kind of superstructure ( the superstructure may be 2 large hatches ) over the turret ring , and the filler cap to the left of the driver , has been replaced by an antenna . This vehicle was used in Korea , judging from the picture a supply vehicle . Early Cent ARV’s were called " Centurion Tower " , a simple superstructure over the the turret ring . The structure was round , about the same diameter as the turret ring , and was powered by the origional turret traverse gear ( not intended as a winch , just a means to stow the cable ), it had 2 hatches on the roof . A picture of this vehicle is also in the same book .
These are very hard vehicles to find information on . But do make for an interesting build . There is a site called "anzacsteel " , and has some good pics , of a Cent ARV MK 1 . In Britain , there is " The Tank Museum " , in Bovington , Dorset . Look them up on the net, and they will no doubt assist you . You can order drawings , etc. from them , at a modest fee , photocopying , and postage . I hope this helps !
