Caterpiller D7

Hey all,

Boy, it’s been a long time since I’ve had the opportunity to post here.

I’d like to share a few shots of my Caterpiller D7 with most of the weathering completed - final weathering will be done once upon the base. Lots of work with the pigments and MIG 502 oils. The dirt and buildup on the tracks is bits of plaster chips/dust mixed with MIG resin.

The Dozer is to be included on a base showing it pushing a burnt/destroyed Pz. IV remains to the side (some of you may have already seen other portions of the scene already ). Anyway, I wanted to catch you all up on this as I’m getting ready to wrap it all up for final presentation.

The kit is a discontinued item from Resicast. Here is a progress shot.

I hope you enjoy.

Thanks guys,

rick

Rick, that is truly awesome.

Lacking anything in the photos to give a spatial reference to its actual size, it looks as if you could climb aboard and drive it away. [bow]

Going to look right at home Rick pushing that wreck! [tup]

Okay, so much for your ref pics…post some of the model…

I was really impressed with Rick’s PhotoShop skills to make it look as though the D7 was photgraphed in a photobooth with a white background.[:D].

Seriously, Rick, the detail and weathering are outstanding. Look foward to seeing the thing on a base.[tup][tup]

Beautiful all around, RickLawler!!![bow] Especially love the cable for lifting and lowering the plow blade. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use for that cable?[?]

Looks great Rick, and I too look forward to seeing this on the base.

Rob

Stunning as always, Rick!

I’ve actually seen your completed diorama of it–didn’t it win a “Best of…” trophy of some sort already?

Really, the whole idea was just masterful! [bow]

Not only is it excellent photography, the model itself is just toooooo good!!! Bleedin’… It’s awsome!!

[bow]

Thanks kindly Gents.

The “cable” is sting used for working with leather that I found at a fabric store. Yep, it’s amazing the places this hobby will take you!

Doog, you’re right the scene is mostly completed - maybe about 98% at the time I took it to competition in Seattle a couple of weeks ago where it won 1st in Dio’s and Best of Show. Schnobs posted a couple of pictures of it on his show update post. And I know that you saw some parts of it on MIG as well.

I have a June deadline for it…so I’d better get the other 2% finished pretty soon.

Thanks again,

rick

Nicely done, Is this the same kit just modified? I think this one won big at noreastcon 09

??? I can’t get the image to uncrookify???

Thanks for the explanation and tip!! I so gotta head out and pick that stuff up, it looks just perfect for towcables.[;)]

Congrats Rick, stunning work there, while reading your description I liked your comments about plaster chips and pigment. While doing ground work the other evening I needed to gouge out the earth. The resulting dust/chips I kept, I thought it was the best looking debris I had seen in ages.

Again congrats on a simply brilliant project a rea lshow stopper.

Regards,

Terry.

Rick - Totally stunning. Not only is the model perfect, but you photo skills are perfect. amazing work. The Rick L museum quality as always[swg]

Rounds Complete!!

[:O][:O][:O]!!!..speechless…[bow]

Says PeeWee Herman to Cheech Marin: I LIKE it!

Stunning piece of work Rick. I have to agree with the others the thing looks about as real as it can get.

I saw the pics of the dio and the awards were well deserved. Congrats on those[#toast].

Missed this when 1st posted. Glad I see it now. Nice…real nice.

Splendid work Rick! Really very nice… It would be great to see these important machines done in plastic!!
