[:(] I have found out I need to strip some paint from my model. I remembered that ya’ll said Castrol Super Clean was a good product to do this, so this A.M. I looked for it at Wal-Mart and Lowe’s. I didn’t find it [banghead] Maybe I was looking in the wrong area. Can you refresh my memory as to where I can buy it? Thank for the help [%-)]
Try an auto parts store.
HEY,
Ya go there and if you cant find it, im sure someone who works there will be able to help ya.
Randy
dont just go on my word but i always use brake fluid to strip paint from my models i would hate for you to mess one up but try a little on something scrap and see it has worked probably 20 times for me without any problems
I bought my Castrol Super Clean at Kragen Auto Parts so if you have one near you check it out.
The Castrol is biodegradable also so you can flush it down the sink if you want, that can’t be said for brake fluid or other caustic substances.
Mike
It should be in the Auto section of Wal-Mart. If you can not find it there ask someone that works for Wal-Mart.
Also, make sure you get the Super Clean in the dark purple bottle.
I have heard of people buying it and saying that it wouldn’t remove the paint from the part they soaked in it, and then found out that they had bought the Castrol Wheel Cleaner by mistake. [:D]

Thank ya’ll for the replies. I’ll check out the auto supply area at Wal-Mart and also the auto supply stores in town.[tup]
So how do you strip it, do you let the model sit in the fluid for a set time, or just apply with a rag? And will it take primer off? Thanks for the replies, I’m learning a lot here.
I agree with Mike. I bought the Csatrol wheel cleaner by mistake and it does not work.
I tried a product called Goo Gone Made by Magic America Corp. It is citrus based. I soaked it overnight and theTestors enamal paint that I had used came off with a light scraping, and a tooth brush. I used a tongue depresser as a scrapper, but you can use another piece of plastic or something that won’t damage the plastic. It will loosen up glue joints. The bottle label says it may dull some plastics. I didn’t notice any difference. I haven’t repainted as of yet, so I don’t know if the product has an adverse effects.
Don’t mix this up with a product called Goof Off by Lilly Ind. The label on this says it may damage plastics. It is mineral based and flamable. Both products are used for removing tape, gum stickers, wax, crayons etc.
Good luck, Scat
Nicevillescott, if you want to learn more about Castrol Super Clean try this web site. That is how I found out, about it [;)] http://www.bonedigger.com/1-3strip.html
If the part is small enough it works best by submerging it in the Castrol.
If you just need to do a small area then take some Super Clean and dip a Q-tip in it and wipe it on the surface of the paint you want to remove. You can keep rubbing it with the Super Clean on the Q-tip and it will eventually come off.
